Default AU S1 Locking Problem

Hey!

A couple of months back I had my AU Series 1 broken into... they smashed in the barrell and broke it off the door handle then proceeded to take all within my car and break the dash in the process of trying to get the stereo.

I managed to re use the barrel as it wasnt too badley damaged and i glued the bracked for the barrell back onto the door handle, seeing as i couldnt afford to pay the excess on my insurance.

Anyways everything has been working fine since until yesterday when i went to unlock my car. I dont have a remote, only keys so i turned the key to open the drivers side door. I could feel it pushing up the lock however it was very stiff and just wouldnt unlock. It looks as though someone has tried to smash the barrell in (again) but been unsuccessful this time.... Whilst trying to unlock the car with the key the rod which connects to the barrel has popped off.

I finally got into the car, took the door apart and connected all the rods, however when i sit in the car and lock it and then pull on the drivers side handle to unlock the central locking from within the car it is very stiff and u have to really pull on it for the the car to unlock. once i do the the door no longer closes properly. It seems to be that the rod which is connected to the door handle is slipping right up the sleeve which it is connected to on the central locking unit. Basically I cant lock the door because i am unable to unlock it again!

Can anyone give me any advise as to how to fix this?

Or should I just fork out the $$$ and pay a locksmith to do it? how much would this set me back?

Any help would be great!

I might suggest fitting a new door lock/actuator assembly and replace the barrel. sounds like the mechanism has been damaged.
