Default NRMA Member end of warranty inspection - BIG THUMBS UP-SCORED ME $3000-$4000! repair

I had an NRMA end of warranty inspecton today. Cost was $199.00. Car has 93,500k's

Mate am I happy, the work that ford will cary out as a result (yes this has been confirmed with the dealer):

1. All Brake calipers lose causing rattle noise - WARRANTY
2. Centre rear differencial mount worn- WARRANTY (requires the diff to be removed)
3. Power steer high pressure hose weeping (will be repleaced) - WARRANTY
4. Both rear shocks and rubbers - R&R WARRANTY
5. All Rose joints in rear suspension- R&R WARRANTY
6. Both front shock absorbers and rubers -R&R WARRANTY
7. Right front seat foam collapsing -R&R WARRANTY
8. Right front seat skin stitching (replace seat skin) - WARRANTY
9. Left front seat skin stsiching (replace seat skin) - WARRANTY
10. Engine oil leak between engine and bell housing - WARRANTY
11. Engine oil leak at front of sump - WARRANTY

The report in light of the work was cheap and carries significant weight with the dealer.

The only item under contention is the front disc rotors. They have heat fractures all round.

Ford suggest they are not covered due to the K's (93,500) I am challenging that and expect them to make good on a remove and replace basis. I have Ford coming back to me first thing tomorrow with an answer. (The car is only 18 months old)

I will have the follow up inspection after a few thousand k's and will ensure work has been completed. Cost is apparently only $22 for follow up.
Cant suggest this enough for cars going out of warranty.

WOnder if RACV have the same! Must check with them to see if they do. Sounds like like it is well worth it as Dealers love worming there was out of warranty issues. Leaset with their backing and someone to stick up for you it makes the $200.00 cheap!

I have had this done on a few cars that I have had. Definately worth the money, and I don't think any dealer would refuse the report from the NRMA.

Money well spent! I would be damn annoyed though if my 18 month old car had that list of problems.

Ha ha ha ha ha. The Police really use these things! I am sure my 12500k's have been much more gentle than active police service.

I am not annoyed, I am happy that Ford will be giving me heaps of new parts.
The car was cheap ($20,750) as an ex chaser so its reall good that this is all happening.

NRMA VEHICLE INSPECTION SERVICE WINDS DOWN
Wednesday 7 February 2007
NRMA Motoring & Services is withdrawing from the vehicle inspection market after a steady eight-year decline in member demand, revenue and profit.
NRMA road service is not affected by the closure.
The decision follows Vehicle Inspection’s operating loss of more than $1 million last financial year and deteriorating market conditions. The business is forecast to lose a greater amount in 2006-07.
Currently less than one per cent of NRMA members use vehicle inspections each year.
Market conditions, including sustained growth in new vehicle sales and the expansion of extended warranties, indicate that demand is likely to drop even further in future as fewer motorists require vehicle inspections.
NRMA intends to redeploy the workforce by offering suitable alternative employment opportunities for all staff affected by the closure into other areas of the business, including the patrol workforce. A full range of job-seeking and counselling services will also be available to support those affected.
NRMA vehicle inspections will continue to be available to members until the end of April 2007. The NRMA is now examining referral services which members may use after April.

Good to see NRMA axes it's only useful service. Using their current logic they should also consider axing road service as well, given the high proportion of new cars on the road under warranty, and just become a discounted travel broker and Dawn Fraiser supporters club.

Never fear, I'm sure some reputable mechanics will fill the void and step up into this area.

Not for long, they are closing down their inpections. To be taken over by the MTA apparently. Does anyone see a conflict of interest here? Motor Trader's Association doing inspections of dealer vehicles?

Members had been complaining about the prices of these inspections for a long while. This and the conditions that are required to arrange an inspection eg making sure the inspection area was suitable to conduct an inspection.

If the service isn't making money why would they keep it on ?

It is a useful service but there are other places that'll do it.

Sydney Vehicle Check is better, if its still around. I sold a car of my Grandfather's and the guy who bought it sent them out to do an instpection. VERY throrough 3 HOUR inspection, cost him around $180, in 1998. They wrote a 3 page report for an IMMACULATE car with 84,000Km on the clock, he still bought it, talked me down $400 and I let it go.
This is the place: http://www.sydneyvehiclecheck.com.au/
The guy tried to discredit eveything I said about the car. For example I said the engine had never been cleaned, I was just THAT clean, so he writes in his report.."looks as if engine has just been steam cleaned", also I transferred it into my name so my Grandfather could register his new car for free and they thought that was "highly suspicious". And he didnt like the fact that I had replaced ONE leaking welch plug, "why not replace the whole set?"

Just out of interest TURBOTAXI had the car been serviced by a Ford Dealer during it's police time or a different mechanic?

Always dealer serviced, and every 10,000k as the police union demands that.

Just an update - car went in today for the warranty work, we are still arguing over the PBR brake rotors - they are saying that it wont be warranty because the discs were used in "extreme conditions" - I keep arguing that if they are selling a performance brake package, and regardless of how hard people stop the discs should not have developed heat fractures and should be a warranty issue - no luck so far - anyone with any ideas here??? Tips on previous arguments (especially where you have won!)

The other thing the service manager has denied is the stitching on the seats. The stitching has come away on the seats in a small section on the rear of each front seat. They are claiming this to be war and tear....... Not very cool.

They also keep saying that the car has done close to 100,000 (implying that the warranty should not have to cover these items) The car has done 93,800 and my counter argument is that he warranty at either 99,999 or 10k's should be just as relevant. Anyone had these arguments before???

An advice appreciated.

I had some stitching fail on the drivers seat of my 03 BA - replaced cover under warranty. I think if you search these threads you will find it was also a common problem with back seats. From what I recall (sometimes the memory is not crash hot!) the problem was having the stiching too close to the edge of the material causing a 'split'. They also said they replaced the foam on the backof the seat because it had compressed. I would stick to my guns on both issues.
Have you rang the 1300 number? Mine was out of warranty last June and last month the air con failed. Rang them jumped up and down and they said it was unusual to fail at 80000 so they came to the party paying 60% of the bill, which I thought was pretty reasonable.
Good luck with it.

Brake rotors are a wear and tear item and are rarely covered under warranty, even racing brakes suffer from heat stress and fractures.
"Performance brakes" doesn't imply that they can take a constant hammering and will survive, better stopping performance i.e. shorter stopping distances is what you get from performance brakes.

Yeah I get that. I acknowledged that the brakes have gotten hot. My argument was that the whole car was built and regulated around longevity (via black oaks computer) My argument was if they set the speed limiter at 230k, then the car SHOULD be able to stop from that speed - over and over if required.

I get better stopping and overall better braking.

To replace the damaged rotors is a $1300 exercise.........

It's just one of those situations where both parties are to some extent right, but Ford being the manufacturer has the right to put limitations on what it will cover under warranty, does the warranty policy mention anything about brakes? I have never read it because it's not a requirement for my job.
