Compared to the same period last year, Toyota actually lost 3% market share. It's not like Holden had an extraordinary month... Toyota just dropped the ball. Supply problems, possibly?

As for Ford, they must be pleased that the following cars lost sales over the same period last year; Falcon, Focus, Courier, Econovan, Escape, Explorer, F250 4X2, F350 4X4, Fairlane, Falcon Ute, LTD, Transit, Transit Bus, Transit C/C. So which car improved the most? The Fiesta, by....78 units. God save the Territory... Last edited by RPO83; 05-04-2005 at 04:36 PM. |

Good to see Falcon ute well and truly back in front of Commodore ute! LTD vs Caprice figures are a bit of a worry though...

Toyota believe the new HiLux will account for roughly 40,000 units this year.
Don't let them achieve their goal, peoples. Keep buying up those Falcon and Commodore Utes!!!

Comments such as the large car segment is down and SUV sales have increased... well Falcon has dressed itself in Territory gear... Commodore is still selling strong.

I'd put it more to the vast difference in marketing attention between the Caprice and the LTD myself. Apart from reviews, I can't say I've ever seen a single ad for the LTD whereas I can still remember the Jame Bond themed Caprice commercials.

It would be good to correlate the production numbers (for local sales only) for Falcon derivative vehicles vs Commodore derivatives, for both pre and post Territory periods.
I wonder what Territory has done for total Ford Aus production numbers and how much it cannibalised has Falcon sales?

The Stato / Caprice is quite a classy looking car, and very much different from the pov models. Very Euro looking, whereas the Fairlane looks like a Falcon thats taken viagra.

i am more suprised by how many F250's that are bought each and every month. I think it is good. Were Ford expecting this kind of success for them?

Good old Commodore remains a favourite. I wonder how many V8's Ford and Holden are pushing apart from XR's and SS's?

Supply was also an issue with MkII for some reason. But I agree more work needs to be put into the LWB cars for them to be more competitive. |

Not sure you can say stolen sales as much as stolen production; its the old chicken & egg arguement.

I'm amazed at the sudden drop in commodore ute sales - they've been very strong since about September of last year.
89 Adventras? It this with the V6 now introduced? If so, that's shocking. Even with just the V8, still very very sad. The paper today reported lower sales of Kluger too, and with Territory riding in the 2000+ bracket, the public has well and truely voted with their hard earned on which is the superior vehicle. Not suprised Ford is selling F250's in that volume. Very few of you would notice that Ford plug this vehicle where it matters...horse magazines. Having assisted with the restoration of a horse float myself, and having bought a '76 F100 to help tow the sucker, it's easy to see why you can see so many newer floats towed by brand new F-Series trucks - they do it very well. Saw a few towing cars into Summernats whilst doing scrutineering too, and the older guys love em.

Good to see strong F-truck sales. F-trucks are also sold in big numbers to SES.

Not wanting to stir the pot put looking at those figures, the Territory has (in relative terms) added about as much volume to total Falcon platform sales as Adventra has to Commodore platform sales... very little in terms of extra production volumes. Would I be correct in my assumption?

Fairlane 145
Falcon 5026 Falcon Ute 1762 LTD 7 Territory 2275 Total 9215 Adventra 89 Commodore 7052 Statesman 284 Commodore Utility 4X2 1299 Commodore Utility 4X4 90 Monaro 207 Caprice 97 Total 9118 Ford Sell more locally produced vehicles then Holden according to my sums, which i hope are correct. Now added Caprice thanx SSbaby, so this should be right. Theres stuff all difference here, but Holden do the extra shifts and have a fair few exports each month, so i guess considering both companies with their local products, they are both just about on par. I personally can tell you that the Territory has knocked around the Falcon in a few regards. A) its taken over some of Falcon production time, therefore Less Falcons getting built a month = less sales and; B) probarly 1 in 3 Territories will replace a Falcon of some sort whether it be a Wagon or a Sedan, I know both my Dad and Uncle have both replaced their BA Falcons with Territories just because they are such a great car with bascially the same dynamics as a Falcon with only small change difference in price. Yes but that's my point. I believe that Ford production volumes pre-Territory were similar to current levels. Irrespective of who produces more, as far as local sales is concerned, Ford have uncovered a way to maintain it's sales composure without actually growing it even though Territory monthly sales figures look impressive. The 'Terror' is cannibolising Falcon sales, unfortunately. Not stirring, just the way I interpret the figures. Could anybody support my off-the-cuff 'findings'?

Its a joke that it only comes with 16 inch rims which happen to be IDENTICAL to the Ghia... Theres no advantage to buying one exteriorwise over the Ghia... As for Mark II its realease was only late last month so Dealers should be getting some stock now, not that they will really want them lol _ |

There is a quick look at the Territory sales and where they have come from posted in the Tech Section HERE.
Cheers Russ
