Just to have my Father here to celebrate the day would be nice too ... but seeing as he passed away 16 years ago ... that's kinda not possible.

My parents don't believe in mother's or father's day, seeing it as only a retail festival.
So I just served myself some egg, bacon and tomato for breakfast. |

For me it's not being a father which makes it fantastic. I don't need kids at the moment.
On a parental basis, I always give my step dad a present or phone call either way.

What would make it special for me is they didn't have these stupid American traditions. Seriously, some bird in America 100 years ago came up with the idea. The only thing that has changed is that big business flood the tv with advertising. "Show dad you really care, buy him this fancy tool. Only $2,799" Why do you have to wait until a dedicated date to buy dad something. Whats wrong with the other 364 days of the year. When did the purchase of a present show dad he was special. If your gonna do gifts, I think those made by your childs hand mean a lot more than flashing around dads credit card.

Well I got two handmade cards full of love and a day of appreciation, I got to watch most of Sandown and went for a drive in my Capri. Sometimes its good to have a specific day to stop and think about the people around us, and its not all about money.

Well, my family's Father's Day dinner was cut short when my Dad and sister started yelling at each other, my sister said something that offended all of us, and her 2 kids - one of which had his 9th birthday today - got upset because of the yelling. It would be nice if they could put a lid on it for once as it ruins what should be a family celebration. At least my Mum didn't have to put up with it as she's on a holiday in Canada with my Aunt.

yep, Holden and ford doing battle, on the edge of your seat stuff. That race couldn't have been on a better day. I had a ball today at sandown. Happy fathers day out there and a thought for the dads that could not be with or have there kids to celebrate it with.
Cheers Kevin PS Oh and glad ford won, yeha!

A good fathers day..
Breakfast in bed, -my young kids bounce in all smiles with some little presents and a hand drawn card. just time for cuddle off the mrs, before me mate drops in and we go to the race track to watch the muscle cars. At the track i meet allan moffat, john goss, Bob holden and a few others. I get to watch some amazing racing, i even get to push moffats 77 bathurst winner onto the dummy grid before seeing it doing a few laps. Then i go sit in aircond comfort, drink a beer or two, and watch GThos, XA-XD falcons mustaangs and escorts race among other dream cars, while on the tv screens sandown and videos of historic races is playing and lycra-lovely pit girls are giving away... show bags of goodies. I get home, have me fave dinner, and watch the video of sandown me mrs made sure to tape while i was trackside. Ford win a really exciting race and take out most of the top 5 places. skife crashes, murf dnfs. sounds like my perfect fathers day.... sounds like fiction... except that was my day today. Im falling asleep grinning! |

I have experience in this. But what i would have liked to do is just sit around chat about cars and have a BBQ watch some V8's.

I had a cracker of a fathersday, my kids (5 & 3) sparked up the BBQ and cooked, my wife did the toast and coffee (man she can knock up a good expresso) then sat out the back and had a good long breakie. then loaded the car and went to my parrents and started eating all over again.
Fathers Day officaly markes the opening of the eating season

One of my best fathers days yet
(it was my 15th) Started Fri night with the presentation of a few well crafted and personalised cards and prezzies. Sunday - Got to sleep in as all the kids were away (We have 5) Went on a cruise with the XR Club and relaxed with the Mob Got a phone call from the two older boys 14 15 and they came back home to watch Sandown with me while Denise presented nibles and drinks Picked up the Younger kids and had a family dinner with a Guinness or two. Life does not get much better than that.

As for what's a good father's day... beat if i know, im not a father!! But my sister had the old boy around for dinner (my folks are british, they dont do the australian celebratory lunch) and i went round there as well. Not very often you see 3 members of my family under the one roof since the folks parted ways - so im pretty sure he enjoyed having a beer, a feed and a chat. He bagged out on chocolate and port, had a decent grin on his mug... so i guess it wasnt too bad.

Well I just want to say Happy Father's Day a day late to Eamon (Cobra). It is his first Father's Day as our son Toby (see avatar) is 4 months old. He is the best Dad to that little boy, and also to my other two kids from a previous relationship, so he really does deserve his own special day to recognise that.
It was my birthday on Saturday and he had a surprise planned for me. I ended up getting quite sick and Eamon pretty much spent the weekend looking after me, cancelling our plans and looking after not just the baby but my other kids too, all on Father's Day. We ended up having my Dad and Mum over for a BBQ yesterday arvo, along with my other two kids' Dad and his girlfriend (all friends and happy, funnily enough). I didnt eat much, but the fellas all sat around with a big sh*tload of BBQ, a carton of Crown, V8s on tv and the kids all running around and the footy on here and there. All followed by more beer, cake and some present swapping... I just hope he had a good day, after the pretty average weekend it started to be when I got crook and ruined it all. ORSM T, I dont know what to say with that, there is no excuse for that in any circumstance. Next year, if you are in Adelaide mate, then drop by our place for a BBQ and we can adopt you as our Dad for the day!!! More Dads cant be a bad thing! Hope all of you Dads had a great day! Jac

Mine was crap too, worked all nite at Riverfire Job through till 8am fathers day, went home to rest for 2 hours, then went out for my next shift, which blew the rest of the day. Didn't get to see my son at all, no call from him either. My ex is playing the not letting me see him game at the moment, silly childish woman is just trying to spite me. She neva complains when the support $$ come in tho. Dreading the having to go to court thing...
