I'm not much of a help, but just some advice - don't ever go to a wreckers to buy a car... my old lady bought a car with reg...go it under her name and found out the engine was stolen....

Try the Trading Post would be the way to go, or www.ebay.com.au alot of nice cars around for sale.

Edit: Might take a little longer for others to reply - not an instant reply =)

Going by how petrol prices are in the UK, you could probably afford to run something more heavier on fuel, ie 6 or an 8, so you don't miss out on the peformance. Car prices are cheaper here as well?

Also, wouldn't you love to tell everyone back home the experience of piloting an "Aussie" performance car?

The price of a swift (I assume you mean the mid 90s version, not the recent model) you are looking at approximatly 5-$8000

For around that price you could get a EF or EL XR6 manual.

Otherwise if you still want to go down the small car route, perhaps a Ford Laser TX3 turbo, with leftover cash for mods?

Hey Donkey Lover... welcome.

Firstly, before you buy a car, could you buy yourself some capital letters and a bit more punctuation? Trying to read your post is scary enough without the fact that you are from England and this is supposed to be your mother tongue.

Secondly, get an eseries on LPG! Had to be said Mingey baby : : :
