Default Annoying Telemarketers

I have these dam Indian telemarketers ringing 4 times a week even Saturdays, usually at dinner time or while im bathing the baby, they are a pain in the @ss, i ended up telling one of them where he can stick his phone and not to call again, i had no calls for a week, now they have started again, aside from getting a private number what can be done ? is there a place where you can register your number saying the calls are unwanted ?

I usually say yes then put the phone down off the hook and go back to what I was doing or sometimes I ask them what they are wearing and so on.

Yeah I hate those pricks.
I know it's them when there is a slight delay and they first say Hello Mr _____
I hang up straight away without saying a word to them. If it was anyone I know or who is particually after me they will always ask for my first name.
My wife used to think I was mean. now she hangs up on the too.
I hate them

Not sure how offshore call centres are affected by local government legislation, but I am sure there is something somewhere that is like an "opt out" for telemarketers, ie. if you tell them to remove you off their list, they have to comply. If they call you again, you can lodge a complaint and they will get a slap on the wrist.

The problem is that some f**khead marketing companies have taken it on themselves to sell the entire listed database of Australian telephone numbers to Indian marketing firms and call centres, and in doing so probably get the result they are looking for, and avoid a lot of our local laws.

I have no hesitation in absolutely giving it to any marketer who rings me at home after hours. It is an invasion of my time and they can politely go and f*** themselves. Same goes for local telemarketers, incidentally.

Dont get agry mate get even

For a period of months I used to tell them where to go.... and alsways international calls..

So finally... Oh yes, I am very interested, could just hold on for a minute, I have something on the stove I need to turn off, I gently put down the phone and go back to AFF...

Funny to hear them shouting Hello Hello....after a couple of mintues, some have even held on for 10 minutes after I have gone back and told them to hold on I spilt the milk...

Have not got a call for ages now.....

I remember having an argument once with a paki lady offering a free holiday, I said no thanks because I know nothing is free or there is a catch. She had a go at me about how can I say no to a free holiday, but then she brought up something about having to attend some seminar . I just hung up on her, couldn't believe she had a go at me.

There is a way of stopping those kinds of phone calls, I saw it on Today Tonight awhile ago. It takes a few phone calls to some head place but it apparently stops them ringing. I can't remember the number (sorry!), but maybe do a search on the TT website. Or you could just say no thanks and hang up on them, that's what I usually do lol.

I usually say something like, "Oh that sounds great! Can you give me more detail please?" and lightly put the phone on the bench, then go back to watching TV.

EDIT: Haha I just saw you do exactly the same Laminge :P

theyre easy to pick. you answer the phone and say "hello" and there is a silent pause for 10 seconds. thats when you hang up.
i got offered a FREE mobile phone once and told him that i wasnt interested in it, he couldnt understand that someone wouldnt want a free phone and then continued to carry on about why everyone needs a mobile phone. after i told him that i dont have one and i dont want one he got angry and started yelling at me for wasting his time.
that was funny coz what i said was true and it was HIM wasting MY time.

Same here mate, and I have a private number. I am sick of the calls that, when you answer it, nobody is there. You stand there saying 'Hello, Hello, is there anybody alive in India' etc. There is a way to stop that.
This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone.

This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a "real" sales person to call back and get someone at home.
What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your# button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer !!!

I've tried this, and can't vouch for its usefulness, but if its on the internet, its got to be correct hasn't it?

If there is one thing that s me its these barsted's. I did all of the normal things we all do, but alas not working. I rang my phone company and told them what i was on about and they said we will look after it. Guess what no more phone call form those people. it has been fantastic.

Dont make the mistake of saying that the person they're after will be back later, whether it be a few hours later or a month or 2, as they make note of it and do exactly that!

Get rid of them the 1st time.... except for one case where it was a fruit and vegie survey and I made up a complete load of bull (for a laugh) where the operator actaully said they didnt believe me! In the end I couldnt hold back the laughs and had to hang up...

there is a registry in the U.S where for a fee of like $10 a year you can have your phone number on a list that companies like this cannot ring. if they do ring you all you have to do is tell the registry and the company will get a massive fine.
thats all good except now the nuisance has come from door to door salesmen since they cant ring half the country to sell their product.
there is talk that we in Aus will get a registry soon.

I get it at home as well. Then we divert our business numbers to home after 5pm, and get it on there too. I hang up usually. Though if they ring 4 times at 8am, and it's my day off, the cop a mouthful. Too bad they don't understand enough english to get the point.
Then I go to work, and I get the reps at work come into the lunchroom to ask about tickets and stuff while I'm at lunch.
I usually ask them how they feel about telemarketers calling while they are having dinner, when they say they don't appreciate it, I tell them to p!ss off, 'cause they are doing the same thing!
My Dad is great though. He leads them on for about a week, and when they finally call back to close the deal he tells them he's changed his mind.

I tell them that I find it extremely invasive and irritating when companies call me in the evening on my private telephone number and that any company which calls me at home will NOT get any business from me. They end the call very quickly after that.

I have a bit of fun with them, makes you feel much better.

Hear them out, then ask them out for dinner or something. The old Seinfeld "can I have your number so I can call you back during your dinner?" is great. I love the rare calls I get from telephone companies, "Sorry, I'd love to help you out but I don't have a phone". Gets em every time.

This is what you need:

The Telecrapper 2000 (TC2K) is a computerized system designed to intercept incoming Telemarketing calls on the first ring, and then carry on a virtual conversation with the telemarketer

http://www.pagerealm.com/tc2k/

have a look at the example convo's:

As soon as they say who they are and who they represent I just say no thanks I'm not interested. Then If they continue with their speil, in a harsher voice I again say I'm not interested but as the word 'interested" finishes I just hang up. Same as the front door 1 chance and one chance only. Easy, polite, no arguments no stress no guilt.

I thought it was just us.
In this house we have two phone lines and both are private. You can pick the calls as there is a silence at the start (between me saying hello and their reesponse) We would also get calls during the day, the answering machine would have flashes but there'd be no messages.. Grrr.
I got very p1ssed...

Ask them for their phone number and what time they have dinner so you can return the favour.

I just hang up. The more annoying marketing people are the ones who come to your house.
