With fuel prices what they are lightweight city roadsters will become the rage... but there will still be some that want more... and more. I thought of this idea on Saturday thinking I was being original (I was actually thinking the Smart Roadster Convertable not the ForTwo)...
Get a Suzuki GSXR1000 engine, bolt it into a lightweight compact two seater and you get a car that does the 1/4 mile in 12.4seconds... http://thekneeslider.com/archives/20...very-smart-car

We'll all be offered 700cc plastic bodied hybrid things with 80kW electric motors and stepless CVT transmissions called CHITs (Composite Hybrid Individual Transport and pronounced with a soft C).
Fuel will be $5.99 a litre and you'll need a permit to buy it anyway but that won't matter on the electronically regulated highways of our nation where a roadside transponder will ensure you don't exceed the speed limit by a nano-cracker. No doubt Bracks will have introduced the mandatory death penalty for 2 km/h over the limit by then in an attempt to solve the ageing population problem by removing us baby booming rebels from the gene pool. Even at the (lower) legal speed limits cornering won't exactly be fun on the 2" wide low rolling resistance tyres that our aforementioned CHITs will be equipped with but at least we'll be comfortable in the fully reclined position made essential by the Cd figure of 0.15. The V8 Supercar series will be replaced by the CHITER Series (the Composite Hybrid Individual Transport Ecomony Run) and Tony Cochrance will swap his AVESCO truck for a Hyundai CHIT Econovan Maxi Low Rider. F1 will be a distant memory having failed to spend enough money to reduce fuel consumption below the mandated 6 litres per race. Bah. There are times when I'm glad I'm getting old. Russ

With rising fuel prices this seems to be the better choice if you want straight line speed.
High output engine, light car.. much like the ariel atom, does o-100kph in 3.2 seconds http://www.arielmotor.co.uk/ |
