Hi guys, I will probably alienate most of you with the heading but know this is best place to ask. I am looking to put above mentioned into a series 2 jag. I want it manual to t5 or 6 I guess. What I need is this. Can you use the standard computer and harness to run this engine without all the crap attached ie; drive by wire throttle, speedo drive etc, basically want it to run engine only, as if it was going into a hotrod. I heard you can flash the computer to remove all unwanted stuff but I've had no confirmation one way or the other. Any advice would be appreciated, web sites, names etc, hopefully someone on here can help. Deano.

Back in the 90's we used to get an aftermarket computer to run the injection, I'm not sure if that would have changed.
either way I'm sure you already know more than me, good luck

These guys are doing a lot of looms and PCM flashing for BA 6cyl swaps.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/billscustomlooms/ from the PCM point of view, the V8 would be much the same so i'd speak to them.

I wouldn't have thought a Boss would fit into a series 2 Jag?? Knew the Chev 350 transplant was common but the Boss is a tight squeeze for anything lol.
I'll be hanging out to see the finished product

I am also looking to do this with my engine... thinking an fd rx7 or a mkiv supra.... supra would be easier as the t56 bolts in... the fd rx7 not somuch..
Haltech do some interesting ecu's that would be suitable as well.

Agree, I can't imagine how it would fit, even the BA Falcon's needed a bulge in the bonnet. Loads of people doing LS1 conversions these days pretty sure you can buy everything you need for an LS1 Jaguar conversion ready to go. They are a very reliable, economical on fuel, lightweight engine & they make respectable power with very little modifications. |

Hi fairlane50, yeah might be tight, still measuring up. V12 ain't small either. Want a Ford engine, Chev powered jags are like assholes, everybody has one. If I need go modify the bonnet, that's OK, length and width should be fine. That's what she said anyway. My next option is stroked 351 or 460, both I've seen done too so want to try something new first. Will take advice and keep you posted if it works.🍺

I just can't see you shutting the bonnet with the Boss engine mate & I actually have owned a couple of XJ's & like the shape of them so I think any kind of bulge or scoop would ruin the look for me. Have seen & driven a couple series 1's with 307 & 350 Chev motors years ago & both of those were pigs. A mate of mine had a series III XJ6 with a 351 in it & it was a petrol eating slug. A bloke I know has a series II with an LS1 & it works really well with a tune & a stock 4 speed Holden auto. I actually also own a very plain, clean modified LS1 SS Commodore & trust me it has no Chev badges anywhere! All the best with it mate, it will be interesting project to build. |

A 5.4 3V will sit lower (plenum etc) and can be tuned, etc plus has VCT.
Had one in a BA, great motor. Have owned Jags, but only one (SII)with 350 - agree with yourself and Fairlane50; fuel guzzling slug. Boih V12s (SIII HE and XJS-HE) were superb, now have XJS with S/C XJR6....tight fit, mainly long/high with Eaton blower hanging off the side, where airbox usually sits.major dramas with Wolf ECU (NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Still not going after nearly 6 years, thanks to Wolf. If i had another SII, would get Mike Roddy or someone to drop in a late 6.0L V12....

Hi Bonn, I will look into 3v, was that available in oz or just u.s.eh? I know I can get a shallower sump, and thought of the 4.6 because it had the lower intake...any links to what you described would be cool.

BA V8 Fairlane & LTD had the 3V, was also an option on other model BA BF (Non XR Falcons) They had same 5.4 capacity bottom end but 3 valves per cylinder with a VCT system. They have great torque down low but are not a high revving motor. If looking at these motors google search "3V VCT Phasers" They did have quite a few problems with phasers so be very aware. I actually own a Fairlane with one of these 3V V8's & an LS1 in another car if I was doing a transplant into a car I was planning on keeping & enjoying the LS1 would be a no brainer. Wasn't aware of the 'phaser' issue, but a lot of fun to own. It's only setback was non-limited slip diff :-) They were known as the Barra 220 - later 230.... here's one that's done 279,000kms without allegedly missing a beat: http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...-4347820/?Cr=0 Mine was the base XT in Narooma Blue, used to upset VZ SS drivers, when they got put away. One day springs to mind, in the winding bends and twisties between Sofala and Ilford...... awesome motor

Are the sumps the same between 3V and 4V?
FG V8 would be rear sump. Not a huge amount of FG V8's around though so overseas might be the easier option.

"mkiv supra...." Wait what? Why would you put a worse engine into a Supra? A Coyote I could understand but a boss 260/290, that's like putting a 1UZ into a Boss 260 XR8......

Well that's your opinion, but it's his car and his choice. He wants something different. I'm guessing he doesn't want to do track work, so weight wouldn't be a big issue. It would be a great cruiser. Cool project.
