Hello
The following may sound extremely naive and ignorant but just curious what other peoples thoughts are on this subject. Basically, Australia is known for its holden vs ford rivalry. I bought my near new falcon and every time i see a car full on bogans in a holden they want to drag me at the lights or tailgate me with a smug grin. Anyway, i was drunk the other night and was discussing the ford vs holden thing with this pom. During the conversation we think we cracked it. At first we were like, its just a racing rivalry that starts on the track and spills over into mainstream society. But at the end of the night we were like, its a scotland vs england thing just like most other "australian" rivalries. We concluded on the above by looking at the following clues. Henry Ford was a scottish rite freemason, the ford logo is blue and white, same as the st andrews flag of scotland. Alexander Holden was an english migrant, holdens colours are red and white, st georges flag of englands colours with a lion rampant. In the past, australia was settled my the english who set up australias structure and imported scottish slaves to build the roads and do all the work. Workers typically buy fords and smug yuppy rich kids and pretty boys buy new holdens. Bogans buy whatever they can afford and dont really have any thought behind their choice beyond whatver they were raised with so dont really count. So the whole holden vs ford thing is the same scotland vs england thing that has been going on since australias settlement. Keep in mind we were drunk, i have no degree in history are rarely consider historical matters so the colours of the logos could just be a coincidence lol. |

Some people like Fords, some like Holdens.
Some people have extreme views about the wonderful properties of iPhones. Some support NRL, some AFL. Rivalry is fun, it can be all consuming, just a passion or have no sense. It’s a part of human nature, thinking while drinking just complicates it all. |

So if ford and Holden are closing, what implications does that hold for England and Scotland?

I am a worker and drive a Commodore and constantly get "smug yuppy rich kids (and adults)" trying to drag me at the lights in their Ford's. Every stereotype drives both vehicles it's just Ford fans focus on the worst of the Holden drivers as Holden fans focus on the worst of the Ford fans. Back when I started driving and was in a magna (brilliant cars btw) both the red and blue camps were just as arrogant and idiotic as each other. Happily the ralliart magna trumped the V8s of its day. I find most bogans are in clapped out 4 bangers with more colours on them than a rainbow without a single straight panel or gutter bashed rim.
Rivalry is great however, GO VOLVO!

I don't think it has ANYTHING to do with England V Scotland... but you did admit you were drunk at the time.

Yeah, upon further research, i now realise drunk theories are never correct lol.
The lion rampant is actually a scottish symbol and henry fords parents were english. Their british culture may have influenced their logo design but at the end of the day, they are american industrialists that care more about money than v8 supercars :P |
