Default New toy time. FG XR8 s/c, FG GT s/c, or 300c SRT8 s/c

Ok, as the thread title states its time for a new toy and i'm after peoples opinions.

Undecided if i'll buy new or go low K used (08,09,10) less than 20k's or lower budget is around 50-60k but obviously less is better.

Just after thoughts on the following,

FG XR8 (s/c etc etc) can be had for low to mid 30's with under 20k's so that leaves a rather large chunk for mods + change.

FG GT (s/c etc etc) again can be had for low to mid 40's with under 20k's

FG GT 335 essentially new but may be able to stretch the budget.

And now for the flaming

300c SRT8, there is a tonne of performance gear from the US and its also cheap. From what i've seen and read you can extract big performance for little money from these things and they sound incredible alot better than any Ford i've heard.

Let the arguments begin

All good fun choices.

What about a demo FPV S/C GS? Looks like they are going around the mid $40k.
Performance wise you can get big power for little cost, with just a tune. Then you'd have plenty of coin left over for suspension, brakes, wheels, etc.

Regarding the 300C SRT8. They do look the part, but drive one first. They handle like a pig IMO. And I believe are quite costly to modify compared to the locals.

As above got for an FG1.5 GS 5 litre...

If you shop hard you should get one for around the mid to low 40's, put a tune & K&N and you will have 370 + Rwkw!

no way id supercharge a FG XR8 or FG 5.4 GT when for a few bob more get the factory supercharged model.. Clean decision here.

300C is much like the FG XR8 or FG GT. You just wont get your money back like the factory car will hold up.

The GS didnt even occur to me, good stuff. I'm heading out for a captain cook on the weekend so i'll add that to the list.

I was unsure of the handling of 300 as ive only read reviews and they were all pretty positve and handles very well for a big car. Test drive will tell i guess.

How about a FG F6? Does it explicitly need to be a V8? In my opinion at least, the turbocharged inline six suits the Falcon's character better.

GS 5.0L Supercharged for sure.

They are making obscene power with just a tune

Go the GS! Factory supercharged goodness
Then tune only
Then brake upgrade if you intend to use them hard.

If you would be happy with the handling of the SRT300C - you probably wouldn't even need suspension upgrade on the FPV GS.

Supercharged GS, then fit custom leather, better brakes and tune as funds allow. Its tailor made for your situation and its a vehicle you can grow and grow into, if that makes sense, as funds allow. Either that or a lightly used F6 which are a fine car with good handling for its size. The 300 SRT8 is a pig in terms of its handling, one good drive and you'll know what I mean.

I know bang for $ the F6 cant really be beaten but i had R32 GTR's for years and i want to head down the V8 route this time around for something different.

I'd pick the srt8 and sc it.

I have a 5.7 hemi and it handles ok for a massive car. I'm sure the srt8 is a bit lower with better suspension.
The GT would probably handle better, but it's not all about handling. Depends what you are after.
Chryslers v8 sound great.

I'll have a squizz at the GS this weekend and go from there.

But the Mrs through a spanner in the works tonight and gave me a couple of options.

I've got plans to import a car from the US early next year also and basicly i can spend up big on a newer car and forgo the import for awhile or buy a cheaper car ie xr8 and import a vehicle for about 20K ish

ooorrrr

Option 2 is keep our 06 Fairmont and spend the whole lot on a car from the US and 50-60k would get me some serious US muscle.

Why oh why must they make life so difficult.

Chryslers v8 sound great.
From what i can gather they'll handle about 5-6 psi stock which is good for around 600hp+ depending on tune, full kits are about 5-7K US.

I'll have to test drive one of course but everything i've read says the srt8 handles very well for a big car so i dont know. As far as i know there around the same weight as the 335 GT give or take a few kg.

Im with you on the sound, there is a heap on youtube and they sound incredible.

What most people here are saying about the SRT8's handling is right. It's a big car and definatily doesn't handle as good as an FG. I have 3 mates with varying 300C's from a 5.7L to a tuned SRT8 right through to a blown SRT8. They are a mean car, really turn heads with the girls, brake well and go good especially with a blower but when it comes to pushing one through some corners they don't perform too well. As for the sound I would say a blown SRT is incredible. If the sound of the world coming to an end could ever be classed as good then this is what it would sound like, lol.

If you're going to import a US muscle car then maybe a Dodge Challenger SRT8. Not sure on the handling of one of those.

IMO I would go for a factory supercharged GS or GT depending on how much you wanna spend. I'll be getting my bum into one early next year.

If you were to import go for the 5.0 Coyote Mustang or 155k for a imported + rhd GT500, watched a few reviews both top the challenger and camaro but 5.0 S/C GS would be my pick over the SRT8

Sorry i should have clarified, i'm looking at bringing in a 60's based car. Possibly a 64 Galaxie, 64 Fairlane or a Fastback Stang. And buying a newer car locally.

Might still need a RHD conversion? If it does need a conversion it might be cheaper to try find one thats already been converted and imported.

30 year rule, wont need a rhd conversion. As far as im aware but at the rate the RTA are moving the goal posts around i'll have to make sure.

SRT8 for sure. These sound absolutely mint, dont exactly hang around either.

F/I kits are on the shelf for these and getting popular.

The 300C is good for something that is different, but I cant see the logic when for less money you could have a OEM SC GT/GS which as noted will handle better and have a warranty.

Although I must say, I dont care how bad the interior is, or how much of a boat they are I love a nice clean (unblinged) 300C.

S/C GS would be the pick.

The SRT/300c has become irrelevant in Australia, (do they even still sell them?).

It never took off, has "out there" styling and questionable handling.

How the heck is the 300C irrelevant...to what?

Id take a 300C over a G6ET any day, moreso if its just for daily driving etc. I think you can get a V8 300C run out for $45k drive away...freakin bargain.

I personally like the styling of the 300C, I would seriously be considering one if I was in the market for that sort of car. They're kind of reminiscent of big American cars from the '50s and the original Chrysler 300C. Hipline is too high though. And no doubt being a big softly sprung cruiser it would be extremely comfortable and good for long trips.

And you call the styling on a FG "in there"?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.Sorry,I took that quote from the AU section.

The car weighs 2T,what would you like it to handle like

I don't agree. I've driven my brothers SRT-8 many times and the factory suspension setup is excellent.

And a 300C makes no promise or shows no ambition to be a handler. Its very much your typical US muscle, which is the appeal to me.

Interesting you are moving from a proper performance car (GTR which was probably modified substantially) to what’s essentially is a large overweight family sedan with good straight line power however inability to corner like a proper performance car … I’m interested what has changed your mind ?
