That should bring big improvements!?
What sort of improvements would people here suggest to consumption and power? http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...2575C200099C46 |

This can only be a good thing, interesting to see that they are looking into the option of a dual fuel system that is dealer fitted and still covered by warranty.
FG mkII is shaping up to have an impressive line up.

They aren't saying whether it is vapour or liquid injection.
If it's liquid I would expect they will end up being pretty much the same power/torque as the petrol versions. They will more than likely have slighty higher fuel consumption than the equivelent petrol versions but with the price of gas who cares. It will heaps better than the mixer systems they use now. Bodes well for future sales, no more of this big car bad fuel economy garbage. Especially since a 4cyl camry isn't much better than a petrol 6 FG now.

Still about 2 years overdue though. I cant believe they released FG with the older mix system & the 4 speed box.

It is the Vialle LIQUID injection.
Great news for the falcon!!! Finally a world class LPG system for a world class vehicle.

Have a look at the rest of what Orbital does too. They have multi-fuel systems, and Direct Injection technology. I don't know how mature their Direct Injection stuff is, but it makes you wonder if Ford could get access to this technology for the I6 - E85, CNG, DI .....
I agree about the dumb LPG decisions made on FG (probably made by the same loopy logic that started, halted, started, halted and started the Territory Diesel development). It's not just keeping the Ring-Mixer and the 4 speed - it is also that the DSC option took so long to develop. And now that it's in distribution, it's got less than a year to recoup development costs. Unless, <shudders>, it's going to remain in the Wagon or Ute range. Lukeyson

Once again Vialle is the leader, as it should be. They have the best mixer systems and now the best Liquid LPG systems.

Eeeeexcellent
Now if the 6 was made to be E85 compatible, they could make a tri-fuel Falcon |

If it is Liquid, I wonder what the premium would be.

Why are there so many who go bezerk over LPG? The ONLY thing going for it is that it is cheap and the ONLY reason it is cheap in that it is not taxed as highly as petrol.
It is difficult to store, requires a heavy tank with a lot of protection and you use a huge amount of it relative to petrol and is not available in many rural and regional areas. 95% of the members here only do 10-20k a year so the savings until the price goes up (and it WILL go up despite all the promises in the world, look what happened with diesel) are far less than just buying a camry or hyundai. One of the great mysteries...... |

and depending on what ford does with these motors, you may also get more power out of it compared to petrol, which is what most members here are after.

I've paid the initial investment cost off now (I've kept records) after 12 months. And it has always cost less than my brothers 1.3L starlet to fuel and he does the same trip as I do, despite any price fluctuations. So I'll keep paying less than half of petrol costs. Mystery? Not to me.

nah its not a mystery flappist. i have been running falcon sedans on lpg for 17 years . @ 35000kms per year . mainly travelling to work and back in that time i have saved about $50000 in fuel. and have not missed anything i have not paid much in maintenence upkeep or installations and the last 2nd hand car the current one i purchased 6 years ago already on LPG for the same price as a petrol car . 500kms a tank for $32 isnt bad at all. that equates to $50 per week for me or less . for 700km. petroal is 150% dearer than gas . so currently i'm saving about $70 per week . i bought that car for $9k and owned it for 6 years to date . on this vehicle i have saved $21800 les 10% economy. thats $20000. |

LPG also pollutes less than Petrol, not in CO2, but in the nasty stuff that people lately seem to be forgetting about.

The icing on the cake would be if Ford switches to tanks like this.....
Couldn't see that happening though. The intial purchase with PPI tank and LI would be much higher over petrol versions.

Difficult to store? You mean like in huge underground tanks like petrol? Only the tank in my car, no extra bracing or protection. If I had an EGAS Falcon I wouldn't even see the tank. I use 20% more than petrol, not all that huge if I save 70% of petrol costs. Not available in many rural regional areas, BULLDUST. : Only a mystery to those who don't want to know or learn about it. :togo: This forum isn't the only place that there are people who do 20 or more k's a year. I doubt there have been ANY promises that the price won't go up but as before it is still cheap. Tax on LPG will increase over the next few years and a little research will tell anyone this.

Flappist has made some good points I think and I no longer own a LPG vehicle.
My only experience was with a 4.8 litre Patrol I had converted to LPG. Old system not the fancy injected one. It was, I must say, simply awesome on LPG. Same power as 98 octane petrol and incredibly cheap to run. The new owner has done over 25,000 k's in 8 months. Rings me regularly. Every time I see his number come up I think "Uh Oh, Whats gone wrong?" He tows a 24 foot van and says it flies up hills. He loves it. We used it to tow a boat and race car. When we went interstate my mate Ivan always drove the "rig" and he's a truckie with a Turbo Diesel Landcruiser. I relaxed in the back. GVM over 5.4 tonnes with spares etc. Cruised at 150 no probs. Cheaper then a Corolla to run. At first he complained about having to drive a lousy Patrol but after a trip to Winton he changed his mind but said nothing. After a trip to Queensland Raceway he actually admitted he prefered the Patrol to his Cruiser. When I sold it to buy the FG XR6T ute he really queried my sanity. I love the ute but man that 4.8 Patrol on LPG was a good tow vehicle. If Ford does an LPG option on a good car (XR6T Ute ZF or G6ET ZF or 2010 Territory Ghia ZF) and not just the poverty pack models I will probably go that way. LPG was 42.9c yesterday at Rouse Hill so hard to resist down here when you haven't worked for 3 years and the investment opportunites are poor so income lowered. |

As already stated, its MUCH cheaper, better for the evironment, IS readily avaliable and requires bugger all protection. (a couple of lock off valves and some heat guards.) Are you one of these people who are scared of LPG, and wont smoke in or around a LPG car? Yes the tax on LPG is going up but it will still be cheaper for MANY years to come, and I'll happily run my XR6 which is quicker, more powerfull, able to tow and roomier for less than the price of a corolla! |

Good news for ford, and excellent timing too, as oil prices are rallying again and OPEC has said they want US$100.00 a barrel again.
