Default Delay button on Fairmont and above headlight switch?

Hi All,

Just curious as to what the delay button next to the headlight switch does on the Fairmonts and above?

Thanks,

Justin.

If you switch it on, and leave your headlights on when you turn off the car, the lights stay on for about a minute (30 sec? not sure), presumably giving you light so you can walk to your front door.

Sorry to hijack, but is it possible to put one of these on an AU without a delay switch?

That was going to be my very next question!

I think it sounds like a very handy feature. I'm hoping that if I can get hold of the switch and surround, that it would just plug straight into my AU Futura. I'm guessing nothing could be that simple though could it!?

yeah, its a security thing, they stay on for 90seconds and then switch off, swwitching baack on when u turn ur car over to accessories via ur key ... if it's turned off, ur car will start to beep telling you that your lights are still on, but will not switch off ...

as for installing them custom, i owuld haave no ideaa ... but ggood luck with it, i love it on mine!!!!

I doubt it would work without upgrading the BEM to one of the high series units and a heck of a lot of wiring

should work with the Futura as they use a high series BEM but only use a few of the functions same as the SR i have looked at my bem and it is olive which according to the parts database is high series it is needed to allow functions like the variable intermittant wipers not on the futura. i'll look into trying it nad let you know i have the wiring diagrams and pinouts

Hmmm, you've got me interested now. Spose I haven't got much to lose in simply buying one and giving it a try.

Shouldn't be too hard, as you can buy adapters to do this manually... Add this switch, will just need to be added to the adapter you can buy.

Yeah keen to try this one out myself and if I get enough time Im going to basically pull bits off the parents Fairmont and plug em into the ute before it gets traded in :hihi:. I'm 99% sure it will only work with high series BEM though.

I was under the impression the pink PEM was the mid-series ... which is a high-series BEM with the few features disabled (height adjustable antenna, headlight delay, etc.)

I have the pink BEM in my XLS .. and I have the variable (speed sensitive) intermittant wipers

My XLS has the delayed wipers too, havent seen one of those since my parents old TE Magna. So if i do have the pink BEM like mechanic, would that mean theres a good chance the headlight light delay switch could work?

You need to find out which PIN in the BEM controls it ... and wire it in accordingly. You'd need to find the pin-outs for the BEM and how it is wired up.

If not ... speak with Stav on here ... he might have another way of sorting this out though. As he was working on auto-headlights on with a light sensor as well.

Yep guilty here to, whenever someone comes in the front door at work and says "who's is the Fairlane out the front" there is a chorus from all the guys in the shop of "it's not a Fairlane it's an LTD" guess I must have said that line once too often

absolutely why else pay all the extra dollars and endure the joy of never being able to find a shopping centre car park space that the car will actually fit into without 3 feet of the back end hanging out
