Hi all, I have an AU XR8 series 3 with auto transmission. I notice that some of you suggest a shift kit as a modification. I googled shift kit and it came up with www.shiftkits.com.au. Is this what you are referring to ? If it is how dose this go with adaptive shift ? and is it worth putting in an XR8 series 3 with auto ?

hey mate dunno bout the adaptive shift but i put it in my S1 5l and it chirps 2nd no other mods on her as yet. also when u boot it and it kicks down doesnt hesitate between shifts as long. i only got the cheap one but the fully adjustable would be heaps good. i think they have an article in aufalcon bout making ur own.

ive just had the fully adjustable one fitted to my box and it really throws it through the gears, it feels harsh accelerating slowly but on full throttle it hammers!

Does it still feel harsh on the lowest setting ? I was thinking of going with the one that has two settings but if your saying its harsh changing up then maybe I should go with the fully adjustible one ?

So far i've kept it off for normal driving, it may be a bit harsh beacuse the ecu is still learning how to control the changes to the gearbox so it might settle down after a while. If you're keen to drag your car i'd say its a worthwhile mod otherwise it could get a bit tedious tooling round the city..but i guess thats why its got a switch ;)

DoreSlamR, if you've got the fully adjustable one, then why not just turn it down a bit for normal driving?

I still have to mount the switches and it took me a little while to work out which was on/off and high/low etc so ive kept it off and high at the momment till i mount them this weekend, just so i know where they're at, then i'll play around with the settings a bit more and find a happy medium

Aah, thats the two-stage shiftkit then. The fully adjustable one has a dial so you can set it to wherever you like...

I found the 2 stage shiftkit to be very harsh on all changes, and especially on kickdown, even on the low setting. According to my g-tech, it only cut about 0.1 off my 0-100 time over about 6 runs, so I just used to have it off all the time - I didn't think the time saving was worth the mechanical bang from the box and diff.

So would one of these kits be better than an adaptive shift auto in sports mode?

i leave mine on most of the time these days and my box hasnt made any audible complaints, it's still silky smooth when its off. i didnt think it would take to much off but it was cheap and easy to install.
