Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to buy a Fairmont Ghia this weekend. How many kays should the VCT engine do and how does it go on gas? The car is a 2001 model and has done 114,000 kays. Should I expect any trouble if the car has had its regular servicing. How many of you have got VCT's with over 200,000 kays on the clock? How are they going? Also, what potential problems should I be on the lookout for when I check out the car on the weekend? Your help would be appreciated. GK |

My XR6 is VCT and got 149K on it.. Hasn't dropped a beat (touch wood) and I flog her. She is also serviced reguarly at 10k intervals and gets a good run every month or so..
The Gas side of things no idea..

I guess the regular servicing is the important bit! I hope it gives you at least another 149,000 trouble free kays! GK |

I have an AU series 1 XR6 VCT, its just dont 200,500 k's, and its been fine. For a little while I had some clutch issues, (its a 5 speed), but that was due to the business who was working on it. (dodgy people). It hasnt given me much trouble, and is an extremly reliable car, and it gets flogged every time it gets driven, so it cant be a bad thing! Hope this helps. Cheers!

I'm at 64,000 in my Series 3. Mechanically, the engine hasn't missed a beat, but I'm not in the 100,000 + bracket yet. So I guess time will tell

My vct also goes very good on gas. It's clocked up 180,000 kays with 80,000 of heavy towing and has been on gas now for a few thousand and it's the best thing l ever done to it. Only drama i have is a very very minor oil leak that apears to be from the front timing chain cover area buy l change oil every 7000 kays and it's never low. Auto also hasnt missed a beat touch wood but that is also serviced every 40,000. |

My vct ghia on gas goes just as hard as on ulp. Still quicker than a VT commo to 80km/h.

Still quicker than a VT commo to 80km/h. mines quicker than a Vt period unless its a GEn3 with work done to it.
Vct is a awesome it has been underestimated for too long and now we are coming back and lifting eyebrows with track times and performance.

My VCT ghia has given me round about 100,000 km of faithful service. Not a problem, just the stoopid MAP sensor, but thats it. Gets flogged now and then, has towed a boat for about 30,000 km (to and from QLD 5 times at least!)
i really feel the car is made for the highway. Speaking of which, its time for another 3,000 km off to qld i go... |

Mine has been reliable also, but dam'n with only 68,000kms on the clock I have never had a car with so many rattles and bloody oil leaks. How many times does one have to replace the VCT cam seal? I'm up to 3 times in 9,000kms! :

Ask GasOLane ... he has gas on his AU Fairlane ... I am sure it's got the VCT motor in it. He's running and IMPCO system as well

im currently getting 300kms to a tank of gas but the engine is very untuned and has some issues at the moment, i was getting 350kms to a tank on the old (tired) motor, but my bro's EB gets almost 600kms to the same sized tank!
