I found this article which may be of interest. Many people do not understand how these two relate to each other.

Everyone was suprised when my old man pulled only 190rwhp out of his 289 in the mustang.
Everyone said it went so hard for so little power. But yeah then we had a little look at the torque read out. 750nm Torque is what got the old girl goin.

It's more about WHERE the torque is in the rev range. |

Well all race cars should have big Cummins diesels then. Power is more directly related to acceleration than torque is, torque affects driveability, and twisting ability on the axles, but not acceleration directly. TO get a better idea, just look at extremes.. imagine how good a 30kw 800Nm NA diesel would perform against a 300kw 200Nm rice burner would perform.. The kw's is what wins the races

The simple way to understand this is,
torque is the amount of work done Horsepower/kilowats, is the rate at which work is done Cheers |

torque is simply force or weight (newtons, pounds, kg etc) over distance (feet, meters etc) if you have a a wrench with a 1m handle and you use 2 newtons of force on the end of the handle, you have 2Nm of torque. if you extend the handle to 2m, and you only use 1 Newton of force you also have 2Nm of torque -as i said, relates to twisting ability or how easy it is to undo the nut (turn the rear axle) - nothing to do with how quickly you turn the nut - that is power.

I see it as torque moves the car, power makes it rev.
