For city running, you get discount petrol and efficiency of hybrid and no diesel issues

What about a RAV4 Hybrid? Then she can flex on the other 30-something mum crowd, that's their weapon of choice at the moment for flexing status.

I think the most practical suggestion so far.
Proven Hybrid Tech.
Not worried about charging.

We have the now superseeded Hyundai Tucson Diesel. Its been brilliant, well built also.
New Hybrid petrol model might be an option.

Hyundai and Kia have had a lot of issues with Petrol Engines.
I don't know if the issues have been fixed.

Im not super knowledgeable about the issue, but am aware of it for sure. I guess all makes have their flaws/issues and am unaware where they may be at with it.

Anyway just providing another option.

Had to look up flexing, too. I was picturing 30 something mums in yoga pants rubbing up against each other.

Outback XT looks like a great product. Have driven the NA version, liked it - see my update musings thread in non Ford rides for 'review' - can imagine it would be even better with turbo. Interestingly, the power and torque levels for the turbo are very close to what the NA Barra had. That would be ample.

XT Outback be like, another day, another slay, to add to Gen Z slang

How do you find the luggage space?
They really need something that has the space of an old-school wagon.

Has someone suggested Kia Carnival
Two neighbours have 3 kids and have these and love em.
The hip access point is great
The only thing I m not sure of is whether third row fold down and the boot capacity
I ve driven one with 270000 on it and it was still pleasant to drive even if a bit tired

The Outback turbo 4 has similar power and torque to the discontinued flat 6. Though arriving earlier in the rev range, befitting the intended market.

Otherwise, maybe a wrx sportswagon might be the go....?

Yeah it might not match an older style falcon wagon sadly.
I think boot space only around 540L, but 1860L with the rear seats down. So might not be enough.

Its enough for us though.
