this may sound silly but have you taken the virus thing off and then restarted the computer, then reinstalled it!!..

just a thought.

I know that my computer has spat a few times and after doing that a few times, it seems to have stopped the weird things (like pages that once loaded wouldnt).
Keep bumping this though, cos Im sure there is some computer wizz out there that will know exactly.....

good luck though

firey - with norton you can't uninstall it - it usually freezes in the middle of an un-install and then you get error messages each time you try to restart your computer - I used to have it on one of the puters here at home and ended up reformatting the computer to get rid of it.

Qwikcorty - check your security settings on both IE and norton, you may have your settings too high to see the scripting on pages such as ebay. Sorry I can't be of more help - haven't done IT support for about 8 years.

Schaz - still a geek grrrrl!

Yes you can uninstall it completley, but you would need to contact norton re how this can be done.

Reboot into safe mode to uninstall Norton. Uninstall tries to kill the Norton program, but Norton doesn't want to close, hence freezing.

IMHO, Norton and McAfee are bloated pieces of crap. If you want to pay for antivirus, don't go past NOD32, otherwise if you want something free (and very good) use AVG Free (free.grisoft.com)

Also don't use Internet Explorer, the patchworked POS. Mozilla Firefox all the way.

it still amuses me that people use add on browsers and hate ie. Have you sorted this out yet? and what type of connection do you have, ie broadband of some kind using network cable or usb, or dialup?

Forget Nortons and ones like AVG, I use BullGuard. Had both the others on previously, and put on BullGuard and it found 10 more viruses that the other 2 missed. I was getting the Blue Screen of Death as I call it, and was just about to have to re-format an start again, it saved me that hassle alltogether. It was unable to delete 5 of them, so it sent a request across to their server wherever it is, and within an hour I had a detailed instruction of how to remove them. And it worked too.
This was done for me while I was on the trial version too......

I'm with Laminge. Use Windows Live Onecare. I've been using it for a while now. Has all kind of great stuff, virus checker, firewall to stop incoming and outgoing(helps with trojans), system tuning such as defrag, backup, and updates piggyback of windows update.

Written by Microsoft for Microsoft, http://www.windowsonecare.com/

You can use it as a free trial. I haven't gotten around to paying for it. I'm hoping it will be built into Vista.

not all the bugs, they also need us to buy the latest version, its good marketing, and thats what they are best at. Regarding the numbers/letters, i have foudn on some machines that had an old version of the msi installer, that the notifications do not work correctly, isntead of the little box in the bottom right corner, you get junk in the top left. Doing a windows update before re-installing usually sorts it out. re: the firewall/security, you have obviously started adding your exceptions, just bear with it. and add your modem's ip etc to the allowed network addresses.

i stand behind McAfee i've used it for years now and have not needed to pay anything thanks to my schools (and now my work) subscription.

as for not being able to uninstall norton i've never heard such complete rubbish.
using firefox isn't much help for preventing virus' but it is helpful with reducing spyware.

back to the TOPIC,
QWIKCORTY i gather you've installed norton on more than one PC in your house and they all have the same problem then?
this is a good indication that norton is to blame. try turning off IWP (internet worm protection), restart and see if those pages then load properly. also turn off the windows firefall as norton will handle ports now and may be causing conflict.

Norton is the worst virus checker around. Pc Cillian seems to be the best in my oppinion. Ok does the virus scanner have a built in firewall cause that will block things

My bet is Norton has disabled cookies and Java. I had no problems wih Norton 05. Norton is a resource hog though.
