Does anyone else hate the term or abbreviation of "SUV"?

Massive pipe dream that will require Government Funding.
two things I see as an issue for an electric off roader. Range. motor in wheel technology, how will that work with river crossings?

Electric is perfect for mines as they are on site and can be charged overnight. There are no exhaust emissions which are a huge problem for underground mines. Also electric doesn't need to worry about dust or water as they are completely sealed. Normal combustion engines need to gulp in air and axles don't like water. But electric in wheel motors would be perfect for river crossings, the electric Land Rover defender does it better than the diesel |

They would need to increase the fleet just to compensate for the extra charging time. |

Good point about electric working underground without emissions, hadn't considered that.
And if you can get past the appellation 'SUV', you will see what the guy wants to design is a more what we would call hard core offroader, 4x4 if you like.

The dump trucks at the mines have electric generator on their wheels now. If I am not mistaken.

Everything is relative. My X5 handles, stops and goes significantly more 'sportily' than (for example) my mates Pajero. Infact, it handles better than most sedans. Also, when did the Aussie invention of a 'sedan like cab, with an open load carrying space in the rear' take ownership of the word 'utility'?? I'll accept that the term 'Ute' would be considered specific nomenclature for them, but 'utility'? Don't think so. My X5 is one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. It's comfortable, seats five adults in comfort, handles well, has excellent vision, goes very well and runs on the smell of an oily rag. There's nothing stupid or useless about it. Either way....... Haters gonna hate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

"if funding can be found to get the project up and running"
This has about as much chance of getting off the ground as I have of becoming the next pope. |

Perhaps one more reading might've been the charm for you then mate, as you have clearly missed the point. You are correct in one regard, being that the (vehicle specific) term 'ute' is a derivative of the term 'utility', meaning "the state of being useful, profitable, or beneficial". A load carrying vehicle with a comfortable cabin space does not own the word 'utility'. Hence manufacturers can feel free to use it in the descriptors of their product if they so choose, regardless of your rather overly developed sense of rage on the issue. Get it now?? Quote:
No, it won't out handle an SSV Redline or an M5. Neither will they in turn out handle a Ferrari F12, does that mean they can't be referred to as 'sporty'? Nor will any of those vehicles comfortably take me anywhere on soft sand, over dunes to fishing spots that I like to get too. Nor will they tow a boat or caravan 1400k's with minimal effect on fuel economy. Nor will they happily pull stumps out of paddocks all day long, while still providing for a comfortable, user friendly, city friendly vehicle. Get it?? ..........Utility!!!! By the by, it's just as competent in the twisties as any baseline Ford, or Holden for that matter, wagon or sedan. Pretty 'sporty' for a 2t+ vehicle with a high centre of gravity I'd say. Quote:
In actual fact, 'most' SUV's offer a (albeit limited) off road capability, far exceeding that of any hatch, sedan or wagon. They do this while being safer, more nimble and more user friendly than any of the hardcore off road vehicles, such as Landcruisers, Prado's or Pajero's etc all this while performing their user friendly all-rounder 'utility' function at a fraction of the cost of those vehicles. There's that 'utility' word again. Quote:
Some are, granted. But speaking as someone who purchased his with a view to owning a car which provided exceptional quality, function, capability and enjoyment AND dare I say it, utility, I can say you are in almost every regard, wrong. It's also a lot cheaper to own one 'multi-purpose' SUV when you would otherwise need two dedicated vehicles to take care of the same needs. Now, good day to you sir.

Another plaything for the latte sipping inner city trendies who will be puzzled and scoff at all us country hicks living hundreds of kilometers from anywhere and how silly we are for not buying stupidly overpriced electric cars with limited ranges and who-knows-what resale value (hint: it will be hopeless...).

If nothing else, the proposed 250 km/h top speed is just dreaming. Apart from being pretty unnecessary for an SUV it would be very difficult to achieve with an electric motor, the power drops off too much at higher speeds.

Say what you like about SUVs this is the best (vehicle)
we have had in our 50 years of car ownership the Our daily driver is a Territory Ghia and its refered to as the wagon or the white as its white our casual car is a BA Ghia and its not refered to as a car or sedan but the silver guess why anyway the Territory is the "car" we are going to keep its not a status symbol but it is a lot easier to slide into as its just the right height we are both in our sixties and it came out just at the right time in our lifetime when you get to our age you start to sieze up and climbing in and out is very important to us thanks John |
