I recently bought a set of slicks (radials) and one of them has a slight leak ,its not on the tread or on the side wall but more in between.
the place that fitted them (not the supplier) said they could put a tube in but we are not sure if its a good idea or not. anyone had experience in this area. steve

I guessing you've had a good look inside the tyre to find out why it leaks.
If I read this correctly and it's on the edge of the tyre where the tread becomes the sidewall it needs to be looked at carefully. There can be a lot of stress on that part of a tyre. Tubes are ok but check first. |

Just a tip if you put a mark on the side wall at the air valve you should be able to see if it is spinning the rim on the tyer. Kevs full slicks on draglites (11s man. & big right boot, qwick left foot)spin nearly 1/2 a turn after abig wekend out :

Block turns both radials on the rim, obviously would be better if didn't turn them.
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11258423 Stick it in the bath tub, see where it is leaking from?

Maybe some of the special white grease the tyre fitters use on the beads might seal things up next time you try refitting them? But then again, that might allow the tyres to turn on the rims more?? OR, if you identify where along the rim/tyre bead it is leaking from, just lube that small section.
I'd prefer not to run a tube. Radials are known to leak sometimes, just some more than others. |
