AU Suspension Levels

Just wondering if anyone had any spec's on the ride height on the AU range?

Im tossing up the idea of maybe buying (finding) some used XR spec springs/shocks instead of going the koni/eibach route as I really dont need top notch stuff for the Fairmont as its really just a family run about.

Would be interested to know what difference putting XR stuff in would make.

Not that there's anything wrong with the Koni / Eibach route

XR stuff would be pretty reasonable though, should be able to pick some of them up at a reasonable price as well!!!

Isn't XR stuff around an inch lower than standard height (for Series 2&3) It's either half an inch or an inch from memory.....anybody please feel free to correct me!!!

Its not that I dont want koni etc, but Im at the point where if I dont keep the AU as a standish ride then I wont stop. Id rather be pouring money into a classic. No offense intended, just different priorities now.

It basically is used for highway runs or the odd longer trip somewhere.

Farimont/Forte/Futura to XR height difference is around 20mm to 25mm.

yeah i think the XRs had slightly firmer shocks and thicker lowered springs, but Im not 100% sure on that.

you can buy new XR spec shocks and springs, if thats what your after. Should still give you improved handling over stock forte style without sacrificing too much comfort.

Id put more emphasis on shocker quality choice over spring height etc though.

Replacement shocks for XRs and Fortes use the same part numbers, and pretty sure are all Monroes from the factory.

Springs (to lower) are what you will need. You only need go shortened shocks if you decide to go SL or SSL height (XR springs are equivalent to Lows).

xr ride is fairly firm but in a good way, JC is correct the original shocks are Monroe , i still have my oldies i`ll have a look at part no. tommorow if thats any help.

XR Height is 1437mm (according to carsales).

I have a series 1 xr6 with 100% factory shocks and springs. The ride is very firm and I don't think there is any drop in ride hight compared to s1 forte.
I also have a s3 wagon forte and would like to replicate the firmness in the front end the xr6 has, I have bought lowerd king springs but am unsure what to do about the shocks. I have also noticed that some xr's have blue shocks from factory where others (like mine) have red shocks.
