just back from a london business trip.
couldnt help to notice theres are lot of ford escorts runing around london. here in melbourne, i hardly see any, whats going on in london town. cheers.. |

This is going back a while, but available over here we only had the Mark 1 or 2 (unless you personnally import), but in England they had them and the Mark 3 and 4 (that looked pretty good). Also much more popular over there hense more escorts.
This might also be true to the other escorts (I wonder)hahahahaha |

I lived there for a year and I think I only saw one. Unless you're talking about the later model front wheel drive jobbies.

When I was there I notices heaps of Escorts/Cortinas/Capris but not many cars any bigger. Not many roads suppord bigger vehicles.
I went into a Ford dealer while there and asked for a Demo of an LTD. Naturally he had no idea what I was on about, so I asked for a V8. None. So I said sports car. None. So I left. No decent Fords in the UK.

I live in teh uk and it is a bit of a mith about the roads do not support bigger cars. It is the land of Jaguar Xjs and rolls you know and there are heaps of mercedes and BMWs both of the small type and the large s class and 7 series.
I personnaly drive a 2000 v8 s type jag and do not have any triouble driving in and around London. The big problem is that most people have to park their cars on teh road as they have no driveways or front yards which gives the appearance of very crowded roads and narrow streets although UK roads a re teh busiest in europe apparently. I think it is generally the cost of fuel, insurance etc that keeps the size of the cars down for the everyday punters. Also now a days the modeo is as big as a falcon. David |

Well I'm here in Bournemouth, England right now, and cannot believe how the rust situation kills off cars so early compared to Oz !! Haven't seen many Capris/Granadas or Escorts yet though....
My Mum has a 1998 Mondeo 2.0Si bought last year for £250 (approx. $500) with MOT, but bubbled sills, a blister on the rear 1/4 panel, and crumbling arches you can stick your fingers through, but in my opinion - still a 'recent' car ! They sold millions of Escorts here right up to the Mk5/6 1998 model, but these will be worth barely £1000, except for the Cossies. Stood in a large supermarket car park here yesterday and our borrowed 1995 'N' reg Ford Galaxy 7 seat people carrier was the 2nd oldest car I could see in about 20 minutes of scanning the spaces as I walked around the nearby shops. The new £2000 Government Scrappage allowance kicked in here recently for cars over 10 years old, with many dealers parading grubby damaged 1999 model cars outside in obviously deliberate states of disrepair to help promote the £2k off new car prices. It's a different world over here - cars really are worthless and disposable after 10 years unless they are something exotic.
