Unique cars did a vid a while back which featured some Group Nc stuff from eastern creek, in the race shown Tilley started from the rear of the field in the Green XY and sliced through the entire field bar the leaders in about 3 laps! amazing footage...

Fastest lap I could find for Matt Mgrath was 2006, he ran a 2:39.

End game is an Nc Falcon would make mincemeat of your Tickford Taxi, despite all its wizzbang brakes and tyres...

What's your agenda? So you agree with me then! Low 2.40's around Bathurst is nothing spectacular. He 's no faster than a taxi.

As with any performance car, its all about power to weight ratio. The thing is on a track like Bathurst with its long straights it wouldn't matter if he was running on wagon wheels.

A Charger broke the lap record at Winton last year.

As for the Biante cars, they are not even pretending to be historic any more. They are going the way of V8Supertaxis, with there being less and less production basis to them all the time. Jim Richard's car featured in another thread at the moment is a classic example of this. So as far as all those of 'note' leaving Appendix J, I say goodbye to bad rubbish.

Given that Phillip Island is such a power circuit, it's not all surprising that big cube V8's have an advantage of the 6 cylinder Chryslers.

That's true, im not a great fan of where the TCM regs are heading..... bit harsh about the participants though, it would be nice if they kept the essence of the category based on Appendix J though.
Which lap record and which version of winton did the charger break?
Not trying to take anything away from it but if there was ever a circuit that would favour the chargers its winton.

Yes I meant the cars. There is no place for cars like that at Historic race meets.

It was the short course. I think the lap record had been held by John Mann, who was Victorias front runner in a Mustang until he retired just recently.

The meeting at Phillip Island that was won by a Charger had two full grids of Appendix J cars, so it was a fair effort.

Pretty impressive when you think about it, the track has improved 100 fold since 1972, and even though the chase slows them down the improvents would go some way to balance that off.
The Moffs 72 spec GTHO is probably as close as you'll get to the current Nc cars..

Bit short on power compared to an Nc car (400-450hp for the group C car), but in terms of everything else its not far off (modern racing crosspiles are grippier, brakes are comparable).

Personally, I don't think the Chase slows the lap times much at all and this is supported by the similarity in lap times from the year before and after the Chase was installed. If you have seen footage/photos from the early 70's, the improvement in the rest of the track is amazing.

Here is another comparison; Paul Stubber has done 2:29's in his Nc Camaro.

And in 1971, Bob Morris in a HO did a 2:40

Moffs XY is nothing like current NC cars, it's 20 sec off the pace for a start as Moff qualified in 2.45's, they now use race seats not originals and a bath mat, tyres are nothing like what was available and the brakes now are no where near what they were back in Moffs day, piston size is now massive!!!!the latter years of GroupC are more like current NC cars
and the Biante series is an absolute joke, this is not what the historics should be about but that's another discussion.

The calipers on Moffats Group C XY were superior to what you can *legally* run in Nc. Modern pad compounds are possibly better (well, Asbestos had some unique properties...). The best front caliper you can run in Nc is a HUGE cast iron (read *HEAVY*) Kelsey Hayes 4 piston caliper that came on 65/66 Lincolns, Galaxies, T-Birds and Mercury Monterys, or you can transplant a Chev caliper. The good Jag caliper misses out on homologation by 12 months.
Nc XY's aren't turning 2:25. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, modern road tires are superior to 60s/70s race rubber...
Nc and late Group C? Oh to have the brake freedoms of Group C with the engine freedoms of Nc...
