Modular engines 2010 onwards

I was talking to my cousin (who lives in England) and he was saying the v6 going into the fg falcon from 2010 onwards will also go into the Jaguar. He doesn't work for Jag but one of his mates reckons Ford Aus has been minorly involved with the new v6 and v8 (he reckons 5.0 390hp n/a and 500hp supercharged).

He reckons that ford Aus and Jaguar have the same basic combo of the (285hp)3.7litre(?) six with zf auto and both n/a and supercharged all alloy 5.0 litre 8's with 6sp ZF auto. The s/c v8 will be detuned in the ford application to around 450hp with up to 510hp acheivable while meeting euro v emmisions.

Does this sound plausible or is it too much like chinese whispers?

I'd like to get my hopes up for a 510hp gtho based on a slightly lighter xt spec donor car with lightweight rims, but mates of mates of cousins don't alawys supply 100% accurate info!

I think Chinese whispers. I'd say it's close to the mark but the V8 for Falcon would probably be twin turbo (if we get it at all.).

I'm not to knowledgeable about the V8's, but I would think it would be cheaper and more reliable to just put in a supercharger instead of 2 turbo's? So I think it could be possible.

Anything and everything from now until a press release or spypics etc have been found is speculation. But there is always hope!

There's no way the Jag V8 will be affordable to fit to a Falcon, when the new Ford 5 litre will make 300kw in NA form and 330 with direct injection. You'd have to assume the Ford 5 litre would have to be at least half the price of the Jag V8, and because its an upgraded version of the current 4.6 which is nearly the same as the FG's Boss V8's it would be very easy to fit with minimal underbonnet changes needed to fit it. Fitting the Jag V8 would require a lot of work to fit.

Will these engines come from India .. As in Tatta ??
The all alloy V8 5.0 has been used in limited use in drag racing etc...

Tata do not make their own engines... So no they wont. Will be interesting to see what is under the hood of a Jaguar and/or Land Rover in 10 years...

Rumor has it that the replacement V8 was to be be a jag unit solely available in FPV range, ie: V8 falcon/ xr8 wont exist due to cost and shift in customer demand. (prior to tata purchase)
Instead they will re-jig their product line up to include a twin turbo 6.
That's if they can end up fitting the new v6 in the engine bay. Being a fwd application in the US, the V is mounted on a slant, however in rwd application, when the engines mounted vertical it sits too tall. Some reckon the power bonnet bulge on the 8 looks like a pimple in comparison.

In the end though who knows what will be. Globalisation and modern day beancounters now mean that there is no product security for any fixed time frame any more regardless of brand heritage or following, nor community impacts/effects. The truth is the car industry is pretty well f##$%d and with in the next decade most majors will just be importers of chineese made crap.
One is already a 90% Korean model lineup.
