Gday there. The other day in my AU 4.0, I heard a strange noise relative to revs and load while in traffic... got home and the p/s resevor was bone dry. Topped her up then chucked her on the hoist the next day. Looks as though theres a leak at the sensor in a ofa place between the rack and cross member. Since I have to drive 700km on Sunday and Ford dealers (parts) arent open tomorrow (already tried repco, nothing), can a temp fix be done... such as silicon up the switch? Or thread sealant?
What would cause the leak? An O ring? While I'm at it I also did a search on this topic and found that to do the seals in the p/s rack 'special' tools are needed. What sort of tools are these... Ford factory ones? Also does anyone have an exploded illustrations of the steering rack? Any help appreciated. Cheers. |

Why don't you just put a new switch in? It's a very simple job & you can get new switches from Repco, Autobarn, etc for about $60. |

g`day smoo rebuilt mine year before last i think, it was a pain in the rear, for all the mucking around a change over rack would be easier i think , if you decide to do it, might be an idea to flush the the old oil an crap out of the system, heres a link to a few pics, http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...t=rack+rebuild
