Hey all,
little background on my problem, my distributor decieded to die on me the other day as i was returning from Katherine, so after getting it towed to my mechanics and having the distributor changed the car idles strange. Now, just sitting there its fine, its not until i have the clutch in and am braking, about to come to a complete stop that the revs drop to about 200rpm. As soon as the car is stopped though the revs raise to 800rpm and hold steady. My mechanic has pulled the car apart but cannot find the cause of the problem. Does anyone here have any idea as to what the hell is going on? Oh and we have done ane ECU reset, twice but it didn't help.

What car do you have? There is no distributor on an AU - only coil packs.
My guess would have been ISC, so if it's not that, then my next guess would be leak in the brake booster/vacuum hose to booster, though this should affect all the time, and you would notice a drop off in brake performance. So back to ISC for me. This might be one of those things that's a bit hard to diagnose over the net.

I agree with JC, Paddle and Mik.
Check for the vacuum leaks and disconnected hoses, give the ISC a clean and if you indeed had the battery disconnected, give the ECU a reset. If that doesn't help, why not also give the throttle body a clean. I cleaned all the intake piping, ISC, gas mixer ring and throttle body on a mate's EL last night, made a big difference in the way the thing started and purred at idle. Cleaning ISC Valve http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...9&postcount=43 Resetting of AU ECU http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...9&postcount=85 Cleaning Throttle Body http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...2&postcount=48 All the best with it. thanks for that guys. i cleaned the ISC again tonight and it seems to have worked. revs dropped once when i took it for a test drive, but that was going out the driveway. so i'd say she's all good now.
