Default ford dealer doing a free engine computer upgrade with a service

I have an AUII I6 Fairmont Ghia and it is due for a 115,000km service.I don`t normally take it to the Ford Dealer but i saw an add in the local papper that as part of the service they are doing a free engine computer upgrade.

What does this mean,is it a good or bad thing to do,could it cause other problems.

Thanks for the help.

I think this refers to flashing your car's computer with any upgraded software Ford developed after the release of your model. That is of course unless it's previously been done, in which case the "value" for money is in fact imaginary!

I could be wrong, but that's what I'd exect it is.

Cheers,

GK

Most probably an update to a later version of the software in your car's computer, generally always a good thing. They're also able to use their diagnostic computers to run checks on the car's computer to see if any faults have been logged.

It is a good thing. What I suggest you do however, is bring your own oil and filter still.

Being AUII it will be beneficial in bringing the upgrades up to what went in on the Series III + whatever upgrades have been added since.
