Default Another wasted car by Cane Farmer

well ,im a bit ****ed off today, mate and i have stopped off at a local cane farm 3 times in last 4 years to ask about a very clean XY sedan undercover in farm shed, each time he tells us his son (about 35 years old)is goind to do it up,mate just told me he followed it (the xy)on a tandem trailer to the tip, asked if he could buy it and tip told him they will not sell it has to be crushed, worst thing is we cant even go to steel section to get parts,
its about the 10th XY on cane farms around here that have refused all offers and at least 6 of them have been sold off to scrap metal merchants in last two years for there lousy $120 a ton,and thats after refusing offers of up to $1500

i`ve been told of the same thing happening in central NSW. mate seen a truck load of early falcons and customlines, mainlines go to scrap yard and tried to buy them to save them from crusher but no luck. recond they all looked like good restorable cars.

its a crime to see our history going to china to make cheap crapy bikes etc or what ever they use it for.

i saw an XY ute sitting in our local scrap yard, it was an 8, (302 or 351 not sure) and hardly a spot of rust on it...
So i asked if they were gonna sell it, reply i got was "yeah mate, im selling it as a lump to BHP"
....PR1CK....

My best mate drove B-Doubles for a subbie out west (NSW) carting scrap metal from farms and tips and the stuff he saw go in the trucks would make you cry .... dry-country, rust free chassis, bodies and panels ... hundreds of 'em! I tried many times to buy bits and pieces but no-one was interested - the land owners just wanted them off their property ASAP ... and the scrap dealers just wanted a quick $$.

Is this for real?? Man that is so not cool!! I cant believe that they wouldnt sell them to someone, but will give them away for scrap. And i cant believe that the tip wont sell them rather than just adding to the masses of scrap metal that we have over here. I would love to do up my torana one day but if I dont get the chance then i sure wont be getting it crushed, i'll find someone who will restore it.

It sucks, but they own it. Maybe they have some sort of shining thing with the metal workers.

Their decision, as much as it sucks.

Lol, classic call.

Seems like very unusual behaviour tho... the scrap value of these cars must be more than what they are letting on... people dont knock back money like that...

sorry to say mate that some arrogant pricks will go out of their way and pocket just so someone else does not gain from their laziness, ive found Cane farmers to be the worst ive met and ive lived in every state except NSW and WA.i think its got a lot to do with them having lots of money (even though they are the biggest whingers for government handouts every year).

It seems quite sad, and illogical to some degree.

I would hazard a guess that people would rather destroy these cars than see other people restore, and potentially profit from their unwanted items. Simply put I think they would rather have the satisfaction of denying you the vehicle, and destroying the vehicle, than to see you gaining profit from the sale of parts, or the "profit" from the restoration of the vehicle.

Its sort of like those people who ensure that the old gardening equipment that they throw out on rubbish night is completely destroyed, rather than letting the forrigers have it.

Hehe jokes on those clowns - parts for some of those older models can fetch a nice sum on ebay or trading post! They're not being smart or smug, they're just being numbskull morons without a single braincell between them.

If I didn't have to buy sugar for my coffee, I wouldn't!

you should go to the tip after dark and take the xy - what are they gunna say? someone took an old car to be crushed? the cops would laugh. -Not that im encouraging any illegal behaviour- but yeah i know it SUCKS. Have asked owner of a few old cars (mainly customlines) "nah mate not for sale, im gunna do it up" 3 years later either rusted beyond repair or gone to the scrappies.

There was a metal recycler in taree that would let you get stuff off the cars before they were crushed for $5-10, it was great. But the do gooder local wreckers got peezed off because people were getting stuff there - even tho the wreckers didnt stock most of that old stuff, they should all be held accountable in a 'crimes against our history' case

Its not the coppers that would be the problem...
Vicroads will be the problem, especially when you try to get some transfer forms...

at Hervey Bay tip(recycling yard) yes im not joking thats what its called lol, have cameras and lights at night and to get in you have to get over or through the 8ft fence so you would be breaking and entering and also tresspassing so no way im going to do that,,besides its already pushed into pile with big front end loader.

I cannot believe that they'd go forward in crushing it, despite all the offers. These cars are classics, and genuine spare parts are no longer readily available for them. What XCSEDAN said about the XA GT, that is a real shame. If it's an old Camry, sure, go ahead and crush it; in fact I'd probably pay to see one get crushed; but good old classics should be salvaged, not destroyed.

These storys are breaking my heart, how can these scrap metal guys be so dumb, im sure the 5K you were offering is more than they would have got from whoever they sell the crushed car too!

Confusing stories to say the least.

I got to know a guy who scrapped cars. He pulled up one night with a rust free dead straight XC GXL with a near perfect interior and decent paint. It was an eight, I think only a 302.

He offered me the whole car for $150 but I already had far too many projects on the go. He let me spend an hour or so stripping it on the back of the trailer so I got plenty of good bits.

It funny, you can drive past some of the cane farms up here, and they will have one of each commodore or falcon ever made. They must just buy each new model and park up the old ones to rust under a tree. Its sad to see, but it happens

its a total shame watching and hearing about our muscle car history going to the crusher ,all involved should be hang by the nads,

a guy in braybrook (vic west) has got 3 mk1 cortinas sitting in his front yard ,i asked him about 13 yrs ago if he wanted to sell them "nah mate their my brothers , he is in jail so probably next year when he gets out" ,
i went back about a year later "nah he is still in jail "
went back a number of times "still in jail" now i have just given up , the weeds around them have just about covered them completly over , so probably not worth anything would be completly rusted out.

even seen some fj holdens being used as chook pens , my brother in law asked if they wanted to sell them "nah mate there for the chooks".

what are these people thinking dont they read the papers with record prices for aussie car's going through the roof espically muscle car's.
