Default Quad Bike for my boys.

Hi all, Recent events at work have taken their toll on my family. My wife and i understand whats going on but i feel real bad for my boys. I would like to get them a Quad Bike. I was actually gonna get myself a project car but thought No stuff it, my boys deserve a new toy more than i do. So im looking at 49cc 2 stroke but would really prefer 90cc or 110cc 4 stroke. Does anyone on here have one. Im looking for info on reliability etc etc. Thanks in advance.

Matey, how old are the boys? My young bloke has had one since he was three. We bought him a 50cc Suzuki but if your boys are much older then don't diick around with the small ones. Make sure that you get the 110cc so that they get the most out of it. Paddy is nearly fifteen now and rides a CR230. Mate, the boys will be so wrapped!

My boys are 11, 9 and 2.5. I was leaning more towards the bigger ones anyway but dont really want anything thats got too much punch.

Definitely get the biggest one you can afford, most quads have a limiter on how much throttle you can give it, in the form of a screw going into the throttle box on the handle bars which limits the throttle so you can adjust it for each kid. Plus you will find once they get a bit older the 50cc will just get a bit boring to them. Maybe have a look at some of those new Yamaha raptor models they come in all kinds of capacity's these days, you are going to want a quality brand because this thing will get a trashing( I know from experience) so Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki basically something you have heard of before. If you service it every now and then it will last for ever.

And they will remember this forever!

Have a look at these:
You can get them one each and have change from the price of a single name brand.

I would go for one of atomik's options. Check out atomik's store on eBay (user:pockrock88). All their bikes/quads come with warranties and I have found them to be very good products and in the off instance that I have needed a part they have been very lenient with warranty validity.

As for size, I would go for something with the biggest frame you can afford and also the biggest engine as they will be sick of an underpowered engine after not long at all and will certainly grow out of a small frame soon enough. As mentioned above, most throttles can be governed and the size shouldn't really be too much of an issue.

Also, it would be worth signing them up with www.redriders.com.au. Although aimed at honda riders, you don't need to own a honda to sign up and membership is completely free. You will get membership cards with your kids names printed on them and membership numbers along with a guide to safe riding DVD and heaps of stickers, delivered to your door for nothing. Only takes a couple of minutes to sign up.

Mate, bought a 49cc quad for my boy 4 yrs ago when he was 10. Still rides it now. Only replacement has been tyres! Best 230 bucks ive EVER spent. Also 1 yr ago bought him a 110 cc quad, mate that thing is cool as. Only thing it should have is kick start.(Has Electric Start). But for 400 bucks hes had a ball. But seriously the 49cc has been awesome. Cheers

Bit hard for size with the two older boys then the 2 1/2 yr old. A 50cc would be the go for the youngest- we had no probs at all with our LT50 Suzuki and at least a 110cc for the older two. A couple of mates bought 110cc cheapie Quads off EBay to tow thier drag bikes back up the return road and so far so good with them too. One had two ladies on it and my mate on his race bike and towed it all no worries.

My bit of advise is make sure you DO NOT BUY one of the CHEAP CHINESE BIKES.

My two nephews could have been killed, when the throttle stuck on their cheap quad and was headed into a copperlog fence, spend the bit extra and get one of the knowns (honda suzuki etc) Luckily they clipped a rock which made them fall off the bike, before the bike hit the fence on its own and near on full pace.

Its been through Fair Trading / DOCEP and currently in the courts trying to get someone to come to the party to fix / replace / refund the bike, but its so far taken 8 months with no real outcome.

I was playing with some Quads on the weekend, an injected 700 Yamaha, Suzuki 400 and a Honda 400. Here is a pic of some of the fun :->

Bombardier / Can-Am / Polaris also have good named in the Quad industry. Personally I would only buy one of those three or the big Japanese four, Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha/Kawasaki.
