Now I am a bit confused, with stroker kits what is the equivalent in engine size, eg 5.0L 5.4L 5.6L etc
and what is a 347 equivalent to? and what kit would you get to make an XR8 5.0L into a 5.6L? Cheers, |

I am pretty sure 347 is equivalent to 5.6L.
Can tell I am not an 8 owner ... as that isn't a definitely answer ... but the numbers seem close to me.

342ci = 5604cc (342*2.54^3)
347ci = 5686cc (347*2.54^3) |

As Ghia5L said...
342ci is approx 5.6L, and assumes a 3.40" stroke and a 4.00" bore. 347ci is approx 5.7L, and assumes a 3.40" stroke and a 4.03" bore (i.e. 30 thou oversize)

what an age old argument.
All the values can vary depending on whether you work it out on the bore and stroke of an engine or the actual vloume say for instance when using deep dish pistons and then do you use 22 / 7ths , 3.142 or the calculator value for Pi when working the volumes. They call it a 347 stroker kit because thats the capacity of the kit. at std bore it is 342cu/i approx. and at 30 thou over bore it is approx. 347 cu/i. pull any engine down and CC it and work out the math and I don't reckon there is an engine on the market that is exactly what they say it is. it's all generalising so whats all the fuss about be proud of your Ford and if Ford , FPV and Tickford all quote the capacity as 347 then as far as I'm concerned I'm proud to advertise it as such but if you all want to play down the size of your engine even in the interest of pedandic accuracy then thats up to you. proud to display my 347 stroker badges but as yet haven't found any 342 stroker badges yet. All in good fun so please take it light heartedly guys. |

The 351 is often quoted as 5.8, but is in fact more than that. Historically, The badges ford used were always one (small) size up from Holden. (350/351, 5.7/5.8 etc). given that 351 is 5.8, then it follows that 347 is 5.6. Either way, you're better off with a 454!

But my honda-matic riceburner has more hp/ci than your dinosaur bogan V8....LOL :P
Howesy, piston "dish" has no affect on displacement. But the rest of your argument is spot-on.
