Now the big question is,is it unleaded or not....in other words if it is leaded and you've got an unleaded car....kiss your cats goodbye.

I think AVGAS was the only leaded high performance fuel.

I always only used Ultima 98, but the cost is getting ridiculous compared to the 95 stuff.
I can get Vortex for about $0.10c a litre cheaper, and I think my Barra 6 likes it better. :baby bott |

In my old ute I ran unleaded and it was designed for super don't even use additives and its never complained - goes to show how strong the 250 X Flow is. In the XH I use premium 95 RON all the time, try to stick to one brand though as I have found the quality varies from fuel station to fuel station and the engine sometimes coughs under acceleration if I use to may different brands

Premium as the Falcon will only run on that. So I use the 98 stuff, I find that it run much better & smoother.

Ultimate 98. 95 pings. 91... the term 'catastrophic engine failures' comes to mind.

bp ultimate only...optimax = pinging, mobil synergy = same fuel as bp ultimate just a different brand name.....vortex? meh
Running a tank of premium once in a blue moon is not really a treat for your car....u need to get a few tanks in to really notice the octane increase... |

Ill run any PULP in the BA but in the XBGT its strictly Mobil Synergy 8000 ONLY, Optimax fouls plugs and soots the rear of the car, the others don't seem as good as Mobil 8000.

And yes, LPG for me too. The rolla's being sold in the next few weeks, and we're now down to a one-car family. If we need another car next year, we will be buying another ford on LPG (hopefully an AU).

Usually 95 ron premium (usually Ampol) with 98ron (usually Vortex Gold and Ultimate) when its a decent price (not more than 10c more than reg).
I only use 91 ron when fuel is a ridiculous price or im broke. I always steer clear of dodgy no name and obscure servo's like Bogas and Burmah.

i used to always put in the 98 for cleanliness and power advantages....but my timing is not advanced...and i found out i can't make use of the xtra octane anway...
so now i just put in the 95...never touch unleaded....maybe it doesn't matter but i guess its just a mind state...i feel happier putting in at least 95 |

Well, last I posted I didn't have the Pintara. It drinks premium. Not 98 RON, but 95 RON. The owner's manual demands minimum 92 RON, and it ran surprisingly bad when I put 91 RON on it once (1 oct point to make such a difference... I couldn't believe). So Shell Unleaded 95, BP Premium, Mobil Synergy 6000 (odd one out - 96 RON) etc is what it gets. Occasionally I go to servo's that only serve 91 and 98, so it gets 98 (like the local woolies place... they've only got regular or Vortex 98).

Pretty much always 98 octane, normally Ultimate.
I know the AU 5.0 is supposed to run quite happily on 91 octane, but it just idles so much better on the expensive stuff. Either way, I always average around 19.1l/100km in the city, 10.5-11 on the open road. Most others on these forums seem to get better economy out of the V8. I dunno why. |

Try living in far north qld and see the fuel we have to deal with. the best we get is normal Vortex. Try running a DEV 5 motor with the high compression on less than ideal fuel.
