Calling the previous Commodores Opels...is a bit of a stretch. Yes they were based on them...but the XD was also based on the Granada. They weren't a straight badge swap like these will be. Holden was alive back then. Come 2017...they are truly dead. Ford is Ford all around the world.

Geez man, so the guy used the wrong spelling, did you have any other point to make?
My memory might be wrong but the XD may have had the same headlights as a Granada. Other than that it was just Ford milking what was at the time a very successful style. The first gen Commodore was based on and looked almost identical to the Opel E series Rekord/ A series Senator but (unfortunately) had aussie engines. The VN was a parts-bin special slapped together by an almost broke Holden based on a widened Senator B with a Buick boat anchor masquerading as an engine. The VT was a widened Opel Omega B. The VE was the first entirely Australian engineered Commodore and something of which we should be proud. The next gen Commodore will be an imported badge engineered Opel with a completely different drive train configuration and will appeal to an entirely different market than the current Commodore does. It'll compete with the Mondeo and the Mazda 6, and as we know market segment regularly returns dismal sales numbers. GM insisting on calling this new car a Commodore is a slap in the face, and while I have no doubt it'll sell in higher numbers than it's competition due to the blinkered Holden faithful, it won't ever come close to the current Commodores already reduced sales numbers. /end history (and future?) lesson. |

They are English. the anglo ****** special. the company has been passed around more than a London slapper. They call their cars DB, when David Brown hasn't been involved with the company since the early 70's. give me Ferrari,Porsche or Maserati anytime. Last edited by MethodX; 05-03-2016 at 09:53 PM. |

Yep, semantics indeed.
Enzo Ferrari hasn't been around since 1988 Ferdinand Porsche hasn't been around since 1951 Alfieri Maserati hasn't been around since 1932. Your point being....?

Semantics??? An example....Holden were a company making cars (albeit for others) prior to GM purchasing them, right? SO they were their own company, right? GM bought them and are now basically SHUTTING them down. If you think that just beacuse they may make Holden badges to slap on cars means that Holden as a proper car company still exists post 2017 then you are dreaming.
Ford is a Ford EVERYWHERE. Ford can shutdown Ford AUS, and Ford still exists. THAT'S the difference. Only semantics? I think not!

It'll look great with a Chev badge slapped on it!
Actually I'm surprised the commodore replacement isn't a Daewoo.

Since the 70's the commodore has been a aussie hit and that cannot be denied.
V8s, worked 6's, Turbo 6's and all rear wheel drive. They are race cars, drag cars and show cars ect. An imported front wheel drive car is NOT a commodore as we know it, so the commodore IS BLOODY DEAD!!! |

Holden and Ford Aus are simply the Australian divisions of yank multinationals. Both companies will go on, GM and Ford... so that's good for all. If the Commodore name is put on a twin turbo V6 Insignia then great, bring it on. |

So will it be ok if Ford put the Falcon Badge on this twin turbo V6 AWD?

Kingswood ran from 1968 to 1984
Commodore 1978 to 2016 I think it's about time to call it a Insignia you can't call a front wheel drive a Commodore. And get rid of the Holden name, it's not a Holden at all. Opel sounds classier not to mention Holden were always claiming that they were following Europe like BMW at times. Chevrolet sound like rubbish even the yanks turn their noes up at that as just junk. |

The last Holden to have any Daewoo origin was the old TK Barina, which could trace its roots back to the Daewoo Kalos. All imported Holdens today are purely GM products from either Europe, Korea, North America or Thailand. Dr Terry |

It would, if the Falcon name had any cachet left with the public ... besides the people on here. Dump the Mondeo name and go with Fusion... sounds more dynamic. |
