I use the patented Hulk security alarm.
A packet of salt and vinegar chips , a stubbie , a few pairs of old shoes and a homeless bum sees that no dents end up in my car!

If I've bought a car new or repainted it (which i do myself given my back ground as panel beater) i get touchy about dents and fix them.
In old cars it gives them character.
I'm never fixing anything on my truck, ever. It's earned every dent.

Be careful what you say about my car, I’ve not been nasty about yours.

I know it’s not perfect but I got confused after reading your mod or not to mod thread.

By the way it’s for sale if you’re interested.

I’d be prepared to accept your car as a trade plus the rest in cash.

Some funny replies, I like most I guess have pride in my cars but am also a realist,
If it's gonna get used. It's gonna get damaged, the GTE has picked up a fair few bonnet paint chips and yes I picked up a strange little dint near the bottom of the door from all things a rock off a truck.
I also have paint swirls to match but tbh I'm not keeping it for the next guy, well I am tbh as it will be my sons when he's old enough, I'm using it to enjoy it and enjoying it I am.
Maybe down the track when the mrs scores herself a new car I'll make the E a garage queen and really neaten it up but in reality for day to day enjoyment things happen and I move on,
I'll only repair big damage n scrapes , small stuff can wait,
Although on her au 2 the paints starting to fade on the bonnet, roof n boot, it's starting to **** me and I know down the track I'll have to paint it but apart from that even her au has about 5 minor dings in it all over
Re gutter rash, well the au rims have copped a hammering, the E has none, the mrs won't drive it cause she's scarred to come home with any on it lol

Then someone takes exception to your parking style and runs a key down the side of it to teach you a lesson.

Interesting timing for this discussion .. Use noticed last night that wife's 1.5week old Triton has a nice 3" scratch in the front quarter .. Down to the undercoat. Looks like someone has walked past it and dragged something down the side. Aholes ..

Wife is reasonable careful about parking (similar thing happened to SV8 when it was a few months old).

She tells me to "not think about it" but my OCD kicks in. I'll get it repaired as I can stand thinking about it for the next five years we have the car. Based on our experience we always seem to have this experience in the first few months, get it fixed then te cars are ok, for the next 5-10 years (stone chips aside)

I reckon Hulk should be the FFs court jester.

My old classics get treated like babies, but the Navara is a daily any major damage gets repaired. But little hail size dings I can live with it's a bloody 4wd for god sake. I also have a little pulsar for a run about and I don't really care about where I park it or anything, but it's funny it is still a clean little beast for a 89 model. But in saying all this I mostly ride a bike to work and drive the pulsar when it's storming or to go to a party, where I'll leave it parked wherever overnight.

I parked far away from everyone else with my brand new car once, only to come back and find it had been broken into, everything stolen, sound system and CD stacker gone and drivers door lock trashed. Had I parked with the rest of the flock it wouldn't have happened. Now I just park next to everyone else.

I've only got two dints on my Focus, and I put them there myself, both are on the sills and I busted the front right wheel on a mate's gate peg in his back yard once, so its got different wheels on it.

Otherwise its covered in stone chips from bashing down dirt roads too fast, chip in the windscreen and I only wash it like once a year so its usually half brown and wheels are brown from brake dust.

Meh, as long as she gets serviced and is in good mechanical order, I'm not too fussed about it being beaten up, being beaten up with dents doesn't leave you on the side of the road.

Speaking of shopping centre gutless "runners". I earned this for my troubles of parking away from the throng and walking the extra distance:

Just bought a new tail light off fleabay and pulled the panels out both sides and fitted the taillight, didn't worry about getting it fixed.

Assholes!

Cheers!

I only tend to judge if it's a very nice car like a late model euro or an FPV and it's dinged up covered with dirt, and just looks unloved.

People that treat their cars this way don't deserve nice cars to begin with.

what rubbish!
I deserve whatever I have and have the right to treat it the way I like, good bad or indifferent.
I keep my things pretty well but nobody can claim I don't have the right to it whatever it is.

And no one has the right to take away my opinion, lol. I can't be the only one who's heart sinks just a little when a nice car looks like it's been thrashed and unloved.

Eh to each their own. If you like purchasing brand new cars and treating them like crap than kudos to you, sir.

Why is it rubbish though? Do you support people who buy nice cars and treat them like crap? Sure it's their car to do as they please, but that doesn't mean it's right.

Let's say you saw a GTF and it was dirty, covered in bird droppings, had dings and dents all over and just looked like it wasn't appreciated. Are you saying you wouldn't judge that person, or feel bad for the car?

Ive had a few arguments over people opening their doors onto my car,who knows, once they go in to the shop somebody may have gotten revenge and gone away smiling...
Only hypothetically of course..
Its ok for them because theyre uninsured pieces of ***** cars mean nothing to them, apart from my family my cars mean the world to me and i get very angry when they are defiled by another person...

I'd think it was awesome. I'd feel sorry for the guy who had one locked up undercover with 0kms on it. Buy it, thrash it, enjoy it, move on.

I wouldn't call dings and dents embarassing. They happen and you can only take precautions to prevent them! What is embarassing though is cars that were damaged and have a plague of rust covering the damage like its been there for at least a year... At least cover it with paint FFS

Its rubbish to say anyone who treats a car or anything else different to how you would, doesn't DESERVE to have it!
I take umbrage in being told what I might or anyone else might deserve.
A car is made of metal, glass and rubber and as such I cant feel bad for it, perhaps I might think about the lost resale or likelihood of its roadworthiness and therefore my communities safety but I wouldn't judge the owner for it, and certainly not declare they didn't deserve to own it.

True, true. Maybe I am a little harsh on my thinking. Treat the car however you want, you payed for it after all.
