when i put the new struts in my wagon, they were marked "XR6 Police Pack Low". this was written in the marker pens that wreckers use, so not sure if it has any relavance to anything. very stiff ride in the front, but having never driven any other BA, I can't really make a comparison.

Sounds like a typical ex-cop car to me. They were very basic low trim leveled car. So it's nothing new

The springs they sometimes used on the OPT20 cars were just XR6 springs, ie king lows.

LSDs, even in General Duties. Different tyres, I've noticed a few police cars run a 55 profile on the 16s rather then a 60. Nothing major.

Well unmarked cop cars have illegal window tint. I am guessing by the looks of it about 15%.

VR onwards commodore police pack vehicles here in WA had SS interior, Finer calibrated speedo, H duty alternator and wiring for auxiliaries, FE2 suspension, Pursuit Rims, Auto box could be manually shifted back to 2 for quick U turns, Heavy duty Brakes, Map pockets and lights. No engine mods. But the engines did feel more responsive under foot i drove a few after putting new tyres on em
Cheers

That car must be a weapon. Does anyone know about these vehicles? I know they also use Territory Turbos.
Racing harness are only in some of the Diplomatic Protection Vehicles. These are the vehicles that have strengthened chassis, uprated suspension. They are designed that in the event of an attack on a VIP, the vehicle can be used to invoke a "blocking" procedure. The officers driving these particular vehicles are highly trained and are in the top 2% of AFP/APS and some instances military drivers.

Most of the DPV's are normal Turbos or V8's.

Yeah, in the AUII/AUIII/BA they had 215/55 R16 tyres (stock was 215/60) and on the BF they went to 225/60. Not sure about FG models.

In the Commodores from the VT (at least) they had 225/60 R15 tyres (stock was 205/65). In the VE I think they just run one profile wider. Police cars are more closer to their stock counterparts than ever before.

My old man was born in England, he said they used to fit upgraded engine, driveline and brakes, put the removed components in a warehouse and refit when the car hit a given number of miles to be resold. This was in the 50's so it was probably as much to do with performance as it was for longevity.

All the DPV vehicles go to auction none are scrapped unless they have been in an accident. The specials have the race harnesses replaced. Unless you actually knew what to look for on the specials you would think them normal. Look for harness points and fel under the dash passengers side for a quick release strap mounting.

Im not sure about the new cars but up until the 90s Holden were definitely making the BT1 model for the police, these were standard commodores with tuned v8s, FE2 suspension, Better brakes, SS interior (for lumber support seats) and a larger alternator with 15x7 steel rims along with the different speedo and interior lights.

Around 2000 they switched to using XR8s and SSs for pursuit cars and standard 6s for station cars.

Im pretty sure they would still need the bigger alternator to cope with the C.O.P.S laptop the radio gear and the lights.

Here are a couple of photos of a one-off prototype all aluminium light bar "Tomar" from the USA as well as the more std one from the USA. They "of course" went with the cheapest rather than the best ... It is still around but I think it was put onto a different vehicle, I know there were several units that wanted it!! NZ police and ambos use allot of Tomar light bars, they rolled and wrote off a car, then unbolted the light bar and put it straight onto a new car and it worked!. Most of the "new" mod cons are on a slide out tray in the boot!

Doubt the pacemakers would be plod spec, they generally only do suspension, no engine/exhaust work etc.

Any idea of how the plugs in the headlight wiring are different, or how they make the headlights flash? Would be an interesting mod to have..
