The daddy long legs has been proven to have a non toxic bite to humans!,

As proven on myht busters they milked the daddy long legs spiders so the could get 1 drop and over 1000 were needed to produce 1 drop of venom, they then (under a vets supervision) injected a mouse and nothing happened, they then injected another mouse with the venom of a redback (black widdow) and the mouse was dead in less then 60 seconds, the guy then put his arm inside a clear tube with all the daddy long legs, and tried to get a bite from 1 of them, and after about an hour he was bitten on the back of the hand, the only thing he got was a red dot on his hand about half the size of a grain of rice and no real pain.

White tail spiders are nasty buggers.

redbacks can be found everywhere ... usually under the edge of bins ... in brickwork (exposed corners) ... sheds ... mailboxes ... you name it.

I have moved out near turf farms ... and funnel web spiders are prolific out in these areas.

Daddy Long legs venom is strong ... although will not affect hums as they fangs are too small and won't break though humans skin ... but these guys feast on redback spiders (the only predator for the redback as far as I know) ... so it's good to keep the daddy long legs spiders around.

Huntsman and wolf spiders are common moreso in the metro areas now.

You know it's going to rain in the next day or 2 ... they come into the house before it rains ... they somehow can predict rainy weather.

Funnel webs are nasty creatures, should all be shot Do you know they can live in water for days at a time? They look like they're floating on the surface, dead... but they are alive and fine. Up here we even have our own version on the Sydney Funnel Web (called the Blue Mountains Funnel Web... how original) and it's the same but can cope with the colder weather.

I heard that huntsman spiders never bite and was told not to be afraid of them... till a friend of mine was BITTEN. She was very sick from it too. I have also heard that they are poisonous if eaten... fancy some huntsman soup?

I was told that Daddy Long Legs are harmless because their fangs are curved and can't actually bite you, they can't penetrate the skin.

I'm getting better with spiders. I've had to learn to kill them when they come into the house because my husband ALWAYS misses, the spider disappears and then we freak out, wondering where it is! Yes, the animal lover KILLS spiders But only some... I have a spider named Henry in the bathroom, he eats all the flies and likes the steam on his web. The ones that can bite and make you sick or kill you, or just look plain nasty... they're the ones I kill.

I'm the unluckiest person around spiders... I have had FOUR hunstman fall on me from shower curtains alone.

God I'm all creeped out now... skin is crawling...

When I did my First Aid course I was told that White Tail Spider bites only affect people that are allergic to them. Also the symptoms return every year at the same time. Dont know how true that is though.

I've been bitten by white tails a couple of times and the only reaction was a painful red lump. However a friend of mine was bitten on the leg a few years back and at the same time every year in the same spot his skin will start blistering and he needs to go on an I.V. with penicillin, it's weird.

I got bitten by a white tail a few months ago, just had a small red lump for a few weeks.

LOVE Huntsmans. Whenever we find one at work it goes straight into the toolbox of the guy scared of spiders. It's great chasing him around the workshop with one on your hand. Even bits of mop on his shoulder have scared the living crap through him.

No everyone is allergic to the vemon in whitetails, hence why some people are effected and some are not.

Found this on some firewood in the back yard.

It has been proven quite recently that whitetail spiders do not cause your skin to rot.

Also proven on Mythbusters that daddy longlegs can bite through human skin.

I got bitten by a white tail spider about 5(just edited, it wasn't 3 but 5!) years ago, bitten on my right arm, on the side of it, near elbow..... was swollen... rang up docs to see what to do, and told 'em what we're currently doing....Which was putting ice over it...and they said don't put ice over it... and just leave it bare.... happend while I was a sleep, never found the spider though...but we knew what spider it was.... White tails were very common around the house. I still have the mark, it's about a size of half a 5c peice. Just going over the bite with my finger an the skin feels a lot smoother then the skin on rest of my arm.

Edit: When I said swollen, I don't mean the whole arm! just swollen a little bit.... around the bite.

My Dad killed a huntsman at our place last night. He wanted me to go out and look at it, but that wasn't going to happen.

Last one I saw was in the bathroom while I was about to have a shower.
Grabbed the towel and ran out until my Dad had removed it.

I don't care that huntsmans are not poisonous. I kill them if I see them because they are SO UGLY! There was one exception recently. On Wednesday night of Bathurst week we returned to the rented place after getting grub at GT Angus. As soon I walked into the house I see it on the wall. The other guys let it out before I had a chance to turn it into a huntsman pancake. Was not happy about this and for the remainder of the time at the house I always checked the entry to see if the bloody thing was still hanging around.

See plenty of spiders but rarely take pictures of them.
First one was taken at Belair national park & i believe it's called a "red headed mouse spider" Quite fascinating to watch and obviously wouldnt kill one of these. Has been my avatar for a few weeks.

2nd one had a VERY explosive abdomen, some of the contents ended up on my shirt and the thing still ran behind the jack cover.

My parents let huntsmans run around they house, the normally just stay up along the walls and roof, it's interesting to see where they are the next day. Only get one every few months tho, had to move a couple that were getting close to bed etc.
I always have t go kill little brown/house spiders for my sisters in the bathroom or their bedroom or something, i can'ty see what the problem is it's just a little spider, can't you kill it yourself?

My old man use to collect huntsmen(mainly) and other types of random spiders; and feed them. He would let 'em go once they got bigger, but they'd keep coming back in to the house and want food!
