Personally i pay taxes thats what i give back to the community. I earn my money, be ****ed if i give anymore of it to someone else. They can get off their **** and earn it. Sure there is some circumstances where its not by fault they are poor but there are people out there who are just plain lazy.
But think about it though when you have millions of dollars and put it down to ratios then 30k for them is like 1k or 2k for us so basically its not expensive. Its like why people buy V8s and rip em to shit. Why buy a FPV when you can buy a base falcon and why buy a HSV when you can get a base commodore, its because they like em. You dont have to be rich to have expensive taste. I dont have a lot of money myself and i still wont settle for second best. I work for it. 30k to us is like $10 to this guy. |

Personally, I could never justify spending that sort of money on a stereo system, but oh well, if somebody really wants to, I guess it's their choice.
I was discussing this with someone the other day, and like I said to them, my opinion is, beyond a certain point it doesn't matter if you've got $1 million or $10 million, it's just a number, and to me at least, as long as I'm healthy, have a roof over my head, food in my stomach and everything I need for day-to-day life, everything else is just a bonus. If I had enough $$$ to be able to afford to spend $30k on audio equiptment without leaving myself short, personally I'd rather spend it in a way that benefits as many people as possible rather then just myself or a select few. But hey, just my opinion, my 2c worth (plus GST, LOL).

Geez Dave, what have you started?
For the record, I'm the ME sales guy here, I also sell my own range of speakers. Do we make a lot of money doing it, not a chance, however it is a living just like yours. 10k amplifiers have there place, just like 500k motor vehicles, if you can't afford it, or simply choose not to, don't critisise those who can afford it, or want to afford it. BTW, yes the little 200 is an impressive little bugger, I always thought something like a 1400 is overkill with your Rogers. A 550 or 850 would be a better match. Rick.

It was just a simple post showing appreciation of an awsome sounding amp.
Speaking of amps......did you give mine a run? Was it impressive? :

what an odd way to start a thread... bindi, by the same token, someone could say that, why should you spend your money on a computer, when you could save a shit load of kids from starving? this guy has a shit load of cash, so $30k isn't so much to him.... if you're not as wealthy as he is, and u spend $1-2k on a computer, then its no different. and who's to say he doesnt give a shit load to charity? |

How old are you? I'd tell you what I think of you for that opinion but I'd probably get myself banned. You think people like living below the poverty line? Its obvious that you've never worked with or known many disadvantaged people because the vast vast majority of people are not lazy, they just don't have any way out of their situation. Grow up and get a little real life experience before you knock the poorer end of our community.

I'd spend $30K on a stereo system if I could afford it - free country and all that...
I just spent $1500 on a new home stereo and a further $1500 on a projector and I thought that was too much...meh lifes too short.

Any tosser can make money, anyone can be rich, anyone can have "things". Items of real value cant be paid for in cash, they have to be earned.

What ever. There really is no point arguing the point. Obviously my opinion isnt allowed to be expressed. As ive said before ive never payed out on anyone for their opinion. You dont know me from a bar of soap. Im by no means selfish ive given to charity plenty of times. It shouldnt be automatically assumed if you got a lot of anything that your obligated to give some. People have their reasons for giving and other have their reasons for not aswell. In anyones case everyone wants to better their situation before anyone elses.
And by the way if any "tosser" could make money then we wouldnt have poverty. |

Seriously Mate
If your opinion wasnt allowed to be expressed I would have deleted it, well I would have been blamed. Others have their opinions, such is life .

Yeah its just a shame that people seem to resort to name calling and assumptions when it aint neccessary. If everyone had the same opinion what a boring world it would be.

the way i saw it, the problem wasn't that you said that you didnt give to charity or whatever, it was the way people may have taken it...in this context...
we went from people talking about poor starving kids in africa, to you saying "they" are lazy....I know you didnt mean the kids in africa, because anyone who thought they are poor just because they are too lazy to earn money, is an absolute moron... I think the wires just crossed a bit.. |

I also forget my manners But I do stand by what I said (please excuse my manners - I normally don't go round calling ppl "wrong" - "****er" yes, but not "wrong"). And to Dez, yes it actually takes me a fair amount of time to finally say "Ok the computer is really stuffing up and the kids need to do their assignments, I'll finally get that extra HD so we can clear the main one enough to be able to defrag the bugger" or "The brakes on the EA have been f*cked since before Xmas, we really have to find the money to fix them before we all die" (Can you believe this still has not been done!?) or "Our son needs yet another pair of shoes cos these ones are giving him heel pain, he's now a size 13 (at age 13) and he can barely walk"... because sometimes charity begins at home. There is a difference between needs and wants - some things are necessary, other things aren't so important and instead of money being put towards the unimportant stuff (like $30K on a friggin amp ffs), it could be really helping ppl in need. That's all I was saying. And Mitchay... GO CASPER! :evil3:

Just to put things into perspective, the following pics show the 10k ME1400 amplifier in question, with it being the very bottom one on the rack, it weighs a hefty 54kg (and should be noted that it's only a 2 channel power amp). Our largest speaker is pictured with it, which stands over 1.5m tall, and weighs 155kg. Rick.
