That name certainly does conjur up some bad memories!

I guess Ford have worked hard in the US to repair the reputation, as its a pretty big seller there. Interesting that they persisted with the name rather than scrap it and start again after the first model.

God no. I'd rather they shelve the Falcon name than use it on some pathetic FWD V6 piece of *****.

And to the OP, i've been seeing Taurus's, Fusions and Explorer's around PD for at least the past 3 years now, its nothing new. They have a whole fleet of foreign Ford's for evaluation purposes. They even have a brand new '13 Shelby GT500 convertible.

Agree'd I can see buying one of the last F6's ever made then move on..

There is plenty of stuff built overseas that's better, I would class myself as a Ford Australia fan not a Ford fan..

holding the funeral when the car is still alive is the best way to kill off the falcon. if enough ford enthusiasts keep bleating about the death of the falcon ford will take notice. these "falcon is dead" threads are really getting beyond a joke at least 1 a week starts up and gets closed because of the usual offenders

Based on?

As the saying goes Money talks a BS walks..

Dollars are the bottom line end of story.

Just because they don't make anymore isn't necessarily the end of the world. There is a huge cult following and a massive 2nd hand market. That with a well established aftermarket, what's to stop it all continuing?

If anything our community will get stronger.

The "first model" you're referring to was actually the third generation Taurus. It was first released in 1986 and had strong sales most of its life - it was the highest selling car in the United States from 1992 till 1996 (the same model we got)

And no, the current Taurus will never replace Falcon (Thank god) It will be history by the time the Falcon is discontinued. Common knowledge around here I thought.

I'm pretty sure we all agree the Taurus that made it out here in the late 90's is beyond ugly, and it caused the model to loose its top seller status in the USA as well. Ford followed up with this;

From what I can tell its the same doors and roof with new front and rear ends. Much like AU to BA... I saw loads of these when I was in the States in 2010, not a bad looking car considering what its based on...

I don't mind the 2008 Taurus during the height of the 3-bar grill days. This model was actually a Ford Five Hundred, but they dropped the name "Five Hundred" and replaced it with Taurus.

The fusion wears that now does't it? Yanks just don't make nice saloons, we all know that.

Although the new Aston 'cut and paste' front end doesn't look to bad at all IMO.

They could always make the Mercury Mistress the Falcon replacement

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Qe_-MrKaoU

OK, back on topic - I'd be happy if the released the Taurus in Aust - actually, I'd be happy if they released the Fusion - has a bit of an Aston Martin look to it.

Yes the Fusion did, as did all US Ford cars at the time (except Mustang). It was Ford's design philosophy in the US of the late 2000s, until they decided to go with a more globalised look. For example - New Fusion and Mondeo.

Sure... but young people are buying second hand large cars. That doesn't really help Ford or Holden too much.

It's not as much holding a funeral when ford them selfs advice the country they will stop production of an Aussie icon. that's true the Taurus will never replace the falcon and the falcon will all ways be known in Australian history but a mid size sedan needs fill it's place **** me if its a focus they come out with or just simply don't replace I want be happy I started this post with thought in mind that I would be happy to see a large v6 twin turbo vehicle enter our market. after all the falcon want carry on unless the government do something about it. Ford hasn't "them selfs" said they will stop production of the Falcon; they just haven't released details of their future plans (post 2016). At least that's my understanding.

I must have missed the announcement from Ford that production would cease, or did I. This is exactly what I was referring to, uniformed non facts from people who know nothing about the subject ( or are you a Ford insider in the know) . what hope is there for the Falcon when we have people lying about the future of the falcon to the extent that they say ford have made an announcement that they have not made. your statement is damaging to an Aussie icon which leads me to believe that you want to see the Falcon die and will tell lies to help it along

I my self drive a falcon look at my current build I will be hugely hurt if they stop production but I can't see a huge future for it either I am In the wholesale side of automotive and the hole entire market is down ridiculously. Market share is been lost to imported cars Kia are the worlds largest and quickest growing manufacture fords market share is down Holden's is down and the company's like Mazda Hyundai Kia are growing quickly yes Hyundai and Kia are both Korean made but they are different badges and both have there own spot in the ladder of market share.
