+1, there is absolutely no reason why the Monaro or any two door version of a common car needs to be or should cost more than the base model. That's a major marketing error right there.

So all the chassis development and testing of a completely separate vehicle is free?

Wagons are always dearer, utes are much cheaper to build and hatches are designed to be 3 or 5 door, they are not different chassis.

Especially when you have a common platform. They can, basically, put any old body they want on top of it. Other manufacturers have been doing this for years...look at how many different cars with different makers badges on them are based on a VW Golf platform for instance...everything from a "normal" hatchback to astounding looking coupes and wagons.

2. The production run for RHD versions of Monaro was fewer than Commmodore or Sportwagon. 3. The LHD Monaro had a different cost centre based on US payments, sales ther were lower priced. Those lower priced Monaros suffered badly with currency shift and made virtually no money, Pontiac G8 was an unmitigated disaster - $200 millon writedown thanks to GMNA incompetence. |

The big issue is the $A nowadays be the US or UK/Euro cars sold here or there.
I remember in the early 70's, when AWE were ~$8K, the E class Merc was~ $100K, and 40 yrs later around the same with wages ~8 times higher!
