Good on you for wanting to do one up.

I have been delaying my race rep build for some time now..those wheels will be hard to find..

Dave from graffix unlimited will do the sticker kits on the greens tuff for around the $1000 region.

Wayne draper (HO) still makes body kits for them..
the whole kit is around $1200.
front+rear spoiler/bar, 4" group C flares

reported in Aust Muscle Car issue 10, in the story on the Greens Tuf XE.

they were letting go because they were designed for the weight of a 935 porsche, not a bl00dy great XE, and they had very small sidewalls that didnt flex very much due to them being crossply construction, not radial.
the XD used 16's, and never had that problem due to the fact the tyres were a heavier construction as they were designed for heavier cars, and the bigger sidewalls had more flex in them.

and yep, was the last of the TRUE touring cars from australia.

i think that bodykit sucks the big one. may as well get a vl walky. sure we would all love to own one of the orig race cars or even a special eddition car with that body kit... but why do it to one that didnt come with it?

Even with that massive rubber it was sliding all over the place! I assume thats one heavily modded clevo..I WANT!

Yep, from memory that XE 351 had factory "ported" 2V heads, single plane manifold, 780 holley, approx 260@ 50 / 680 lift solid cam, carrillo's, 7200 rpm shift point, Phase 4 tri y headers.. approx 450 bhp, but over 500 ftlb's of torque...

7200RPM! Id love to have that, I only go near 5500RPM now and then....

You and me both mate. AVESCO can keep their V8 Supercars, Group C was the pinnacle of Aussie motor racing.

Doesn't that clevo make a V8 Supercar sound like a lawn mower!

As he clipped those tyres the steering arm snapped pointing the right wheel into the trees and as it laned, that's where it went :(

VERY lucky to walk away....just a few bruises! If it had of hit that tree I'd be thinking a different outcome.

I was only in high school, and saw it all on TV, but got to see Greens-tuff in the flesh for the first time at Surfers Paradise raceway in 1987, at what turned out to be it's last ever touring car race. I still have my ticket!

If you ever get the chance, make it to a historical meeting whenever the Group C cars are running. You will love it.

I don't know if you know the story. That happened Saturday Afternoon. The team negotiated with another team to purchase their race car, which received all the DJR Prepped gear from the crashed car. The car fronted to the Start grid without the benefit of a single lap Sunday morning, with the paint still wet, and the team putting stickers over the wet paint on the grid.

This is the first solid memory of bathurst. I was 10 that day, my 11th was the next day. I remember crying as my childhood hero clambered back towards the track. My dad says I used to sit and watch the race, start to finish, from when I was 4. I have not missed a single minute of bathurst since.

DJ Claims up to that point, it was perhaps the most perfect lap he has ever done.

Imagine showing up to Lakeside or Surfers, only to find that Moffat and Brock were Concentrating the remainder of their efforts for the year on bathurst, to find that there were only 6 top line cars at the track.
What the V8's lack is the Soul that Group C had, and it will never get it.

Would I change back. It would still likely be a Ford V Holden thing, as the likelyhood of sterile manufacturers like Toyota, Mazda, Volvo, Nissan (who were involved) let alone Hyundai, Daewoo, Subaru seems unlikely. I am not sure that the current cars are not where Group C 20 years on would have headed. Time is different now, and while I miss standing on the hill at Surfers, or at the bottom of the hill at Lakeside hearing the Big Bangers blast by, I also enjoy watching the V8's from the grandstand at Symonds, EC, on the back straight @ Willowbank, and likely will from PI Next month.

The time line suggests this meeting was likely the last race at Surfers! I was also there. I seem to think that by 87 Dick was in a Mustang, which I clearly recall seeing run at Surfers, so I am not certain that the XE was racing that late
The Mustang did start out with Greens Tuff sponsorship, so maybe the memory is off as to the car, or the year. It was a great track though!

Weren't there a few sneaky moves with the XD. Ford didn't want the XD raced and some guys in Ford helped Steve Harrington and Murray Carter get the thing homologated (at the lightest "taxi" weight). It also had to compete with Brock Commodores.

Was this the era when CAMS was trying to create a level playing field for all the cars (drum rear brakes on the Camaro, 13B engines in the RX7, Holleys for the Fords, etc.

They actually homologated the the six cylinder GL weight instead of the V8 car's weight.

No i never really was into motor racing up until around 10 years ago, i am only a young kid at 23, so i only got to watch the later stages of Dick's career.
