Default New Car, What To Buy??

Time for dad to upgrade our car soon.

Requirments mainly being, rear wheel drive, manual, 4 doors. Main exemption to the manual and four door rule is a four wheel drive, or something such as a beemer 3 series or merc C-Class.

On top of the list is a GT with the 6 speed manual, although we are open to suggestions to something different.

Current car is a MKII GT.

Price is around 65k but may stretch to something higher for a car we consider worth it.

So throw out your suggestions

Cheers

Can you get an F6 for that price? Boost and manual = fun no matter what car it comes in

Why not just keep the GT?

Sort of a good point. Other than an F6 or a Holden of some description I really can't see what else you could get with those constraints :

I know i wouldnt be buying another one to get basically the same vehicle.

My only other option would be a Clubsport R8 M6.

Dad likes to upgrade after 2 yrs, so keeping the GT probably isn't really an option.

HSV's are an option but i can see dad living with one, he likes them, but he is a true ford fan and i just cant see him being able to live with a HSV.

F6 is an a good choice but if he was gonna stick with an FPV he'd buy a GT, just loves his V8s.

Totally agree, WTF is the point getting another BF2 GT?

Save ya $$$ for Orion if his desperate, otherwise I would try the HSV just for the heck of it.

edit: what about a hot liberty? Surely you could get the best model with that money.

Well then you have a GT, GT-P, or a Force 8 (price check ?) in all reality of options then don't you?

Force 8 isn't manual.

He is after something diffrent, but if there is nothing diffrent he likes he will just stick with what he knows. Ford V8s.

Or better yet, stuff "upgrading".

Get a whipple on that 290 pronto! It will be like a new car, and a damn good one at that.

Lol, hes not gaining much by getting another V8 FPV, all hes doing is losing 30 grand and another 30 grand in 12 months.

Each to their own, i bought my FPV to keep for ever so i guess i dont have to worry.

You asked for input, im saying if he has to resort to buying another FPV GT coz nothing else matches it then hes much better off keeping what he has. Nothing bagged out about that, just common sense. _2:

If I had a spare $30 or so burning a hole in my wallet, and a GT in the garage, I'd buy a Golf diesel as a daily runabout and keep the GT in good nick as an after-hours car. The money you'd save on fuel alone would more-or-less fund the Golf's running costs, you would have nowhere near as much depreciation to swallow, and you would be keeping the KMs down on the GT. Those little diesels also pack a surprising punch.

Otherwise, as has been said, HSV is probably the only other way to go. Shame about the manual-only stipulation, because a Calais-V or Caprice 6.0 could be worth a look.

Or a WRX STi

AFAIK the STi Liberty aint out yet but it's smack bang on the $65k mark and fits it the bill bar the RWD constraint.

Its called leasing. Just because he changes his cars every two years it doesn't automatically mean that he has managed to grow a money tree in his backyard.

Would he look at second hand? Some of the European V8's aren't too bad. Re-sale in a couple of years wouldn't be too bad and he could probably upgrade to something a bit nicer again.
