Conservative city in Australia?

Obviously Sydney isn't going to win this contest, but I figure there has to be a conservative city somewhere in Australia.

The Capital is conservative? That would be a definate departure from the norm, at least here. The capital cities are usually the most liberal in their respective states. Austin is by far the most liberal city in Texas, as an example.

I gotcha. Nothing quite like that here. What I see all the time are cars with "Student Driver" in big letters all over them. People practicing and taking their driving tests. I always make a point to stay AWAY from those cars.

You hold the "Red P's" for 12 months minimum, then you progress to "green P's" for 24 months. depending on what colour P's you have, you are restricted to a certain level. eg: Red P platers are restricted to 90 km/h (56mph) green P platers are restricted to 100 km/h (63mph). These examples are for the state of New South Wales (Sydney) but they differ from state to state.

It would p#*s me off if it weren't true. Our notionally left of centre government is almost as "right" in it's thinking as our former conservative government. If i liked sheep a bit more I'd think about heading to NZ just to be somewhere a little less under the spell of "DUBYA"

Just about any Rural town in Victoria, Geelong where you cant do any thing or make anything, without the council crying about it, You cant even drive thru town centre anymore because they wont to take all the cars out of town etc...and much more.

Porn capital? I thought that was Fyshwick (Not part of Canberra, but in the ACT far as I remember). Prostitution capital? I thought that was tied between Kings Cross, King Street (Newtown) and Oxford Street in Sydney.. :

Been to Canberra lots and lots of times... seems like a huge retirement village every time I go there. Literally nothing happening at night, and equally little during the day...

so where abouts exactly have you been in canberra mate?. Fyshwick is a suberb of canberra. and its legal for pros to work in houses in the suberbs. as well as in the brothels in mitchel and Fyshwick. plus the odd street walker

Ive been to Sydney plenty of times too. Wouldnt trade it for the world. At least I dont choke on smog here and can actually get to sleep at night. Nothing happening at night? You obviously havent been to Civic then. You cant quite compare the nightlife to Sydney dude its like what 1/2 or 1/4 probably even less in population. Actually I think its about 350-400000.

Sydney's got 8.4x the population of Canberra. Approx 4,200,000 to approx 500,000.

Canberra, IMO, has too many politicians and fyswhick orientated stuff.

It doesn't surprise me that Perth is conservative. Its sort of like the town I live in in Texas, in that its way out in the sticks.

Perth is actually quite nice, I went over to visit my sister and found Fremantle to be much more exciting than most towns I've visited. Great food, fabulous coffee and even better shops. First time I tried a Jesters Pie too (now they are branching out to Sydney finally).

Anyway, out of curiosity, why do you want to know which is the most conservative city/state, Taco? Planning a move? Or just a good ol' fashioned sh!tstir? :dr_Evil:

Reason I ask is I have a buddy whos been to Sydney a few times and he tells me hes very much like San Francisco. I figure Aus is a huge country like we are, and while we do have California, we also have places (like Texas) that are fairly conservative. Hell, from what I understand Aus used to have fairly lax gun laws (among other things) until like '96.

I guess its a stir-stir thing, but I also don't know much about Aus, besides what can be read on the internet, but that doesn't really tell you much about the people and things like that. Best way to do that is talk to you guys. :
