The Falcon will be in production until late 2016, the Commodore program is set at this stage to be shutdown at a similar time.
Long story short, Not a snowflakes chance in hell i'll buy a VF over the last Generation Falcon. |

For me .. I currently own a Commode and would be happy enough to own another.
For my wife needing/wanting a ute .. No .. A Commodore is not a suitable substitute. Falcon ute towing/carrying capacity and still being car sized and car luxury makes it unique. |

I don't understand what it is with everyone thinking they are going to have to go out and buy a Commodore now. For the next 3 years Fords will still be made here, so you have the next 3 years, plus a few more to snap up any new or hardly driven ones.
BTW, I can't see Commodore being made after 2016, Holden are just denying the inevitable. They have received large amounts of Government grants, if they made the announcement to shut up shop like Ford at this time, they would be hated by the public. And as much as it's sad to see the Falcon go, atleast it's gone before they turned it into a FWD boring, characterless slug.

As the old saying goes... "I'd rather push my Ford than drive a Holden"
Holden has only promised production until 2022, don't see component manufacturing as surviving on Holdens with large parts imported and Toyota's build from parts arriving in boxes from Japan... Economies of Scale are needed and that isn't happening with the products coming out the door of Toyota & Holden, local sales not enough to support the costs and no or little opportunities for export markets. |

I've had Commodores in the past and if they are still making them when I'm next in the market for a large RWD, I'll buy another.
But I doubt it. Car manufacturing seems to be doomed in Oz. I wish Holden all the best, and I hope they stick around. They certainly seem to be trying a lot harder than Ford ever did, especially marketing and developing markets for export. Its as if Ford stuck their head in the sand.

Dunnydore won't be here in 2016 either. Holden were on the TV today saying that things must change here. They've already axed a heap of jobs right after government handouts were given to them. Things are not rosy for Holden. They will follow Ford in time and so will Toyota. So if the Falcon is still here by 2016 buy that. After that who knows.
As for buying a Commodore at any time? No. Unless you buy the V8, nothing has the lazy torque of the I6. The V6 Commodores are revvy torqueless machines, just like Camry's and the Kluger.

well, if it was the other way around, and there was no commodore i would definetly consider buying a falcon. (i have never owned one though previously, and the old man had a new xf back in the day though,)
Anyway, as has been said, after 2016 the next commo may be a fwd so the holden buyers like me will be in just the same situation as you guys. Since i dont like the VE/VF due to its massive size, i will be keeping my VZ for a loong time.

In one word, no.
We'll be fortunate enough to update both current daily drivers before 2016 comes along so that defers the decision until 2020 at least. Certainly the FG will be likely replaced with another Falcon based equivalent but the Territory is already under review in favour of an Expedition if they find their way here. When the next round after that comes we'll look at what is available but another 300C SRT8 would be a starter before anything else. Cheers Russ

Remember when Ford had financial issues BEFORE the financial crisis ??
They changed BEFORE it hit the fan !!! I think the SAME thing is going on here !! New cars will be hatch back type cars, small station wagon SUV type were Mum can stuff all her groceries in without issue.. Plus be a $18 - $32K vehicle at that !!! Two box front wheel drive construction is so much easier, cheaper to make !! I can [hopefully] see the time when Holden sales people see new Fords driving past there showrooms... Wishing they had changed before Ford ...Ford just MAY have a jump on them ...

I own both Holden's and Fords and prefer to support local industry.
But what locally made car is going to tow my two and a half tonne boat? I hope the Terry is carried right through to 2016 however tipping money into a company that's already bolted seems like a waste. I already feel betrayed after buying my current Terry. |

Is the Ranger made in Australia? ...
I should have specified, it's the wife's daily, she doesn't want a ute, and a large wagon is far more practical for us, 7 seats etc. Last edited by aZ`; 25-05-2013 at 06:44 PM. |

Michael Devereux said they were committed to the 2017 VJ in April but now says NOTHING is set in stone. I certainly wouldn't bet on it!

If VE Commodores onwards were really meant to last for another decade or so, surely Holden would have started a new model code (eg YA, or AA) for models post the VZ, as they have mostly always done. To me, using up these stray V* codes seemed to be an inside joke; as if to say this will be the last one. |

I doubt it would be any cheaper than say 80k, it is the top of the line, just like a GTP.

Instead of the government throwing/giving the car makers...holden/ford/toyota..etc....billions of dollars, why not just drop the excise/tax on petrol and make it 1.00 a ltr in all states, or there abouts and make it more affordable to run the bigger cars??, workers get to keep there jobs, component makers stay employed...just a thought...

From memory they wanted around $85k for the mustang cobra when they were selling them earlier this century. I'd love to see a GT500 at as low a price as possible, but if they think they can ask big dollars for it I don't doubt they will. I reckon they'll ask at least that for it and probably closer to $100k, which is a shame because I'll probably never be able to get one (and I desperately want one).

Well, what do the govts get back for giving/allowing the car manufacturers to have these billions of dollars...And i still think the govt makes a lot of money off of petrol excises, they could cut that and drop the price off a litre of petrol at the pump....it would help.

Fords not manufacturing in Australia come 2016, but Fords far from deserting Australia there will be 1500 still employed designing and engineering Ford cars for the rest of the world, how many employees will Holden have left come 2016?
When the 400/500 upcomming retrenchment at Holden happen, Ford will then employ more people than Holden(Manufacturing/engineering), so with fewer sales and smaller production volume, over $1 billion less of government handouts over the past 12 years, the only fully Australian designed/ engineered cars the I6 Falcon and Territory, Fords been a bit more fair dinkum than Holden!!!!! I would never buy a Holden, but will pick the Ford with the most Aussie input. |
