hehe true Franco but I feel all its done is shifted the issues of old to new ones LOL......
Funny re 2 british brands, one gone woke the other a cheap appliance. Ford put the white flag up let the others eat the spaces.

Does anyone think Ford can make it 3 years in a row with Ranger?
Are the Rav4 sales catching up on back orders or will they be the monthly norm?

I don't think the Ranger will do 3 Years in a row.
More competition in the Ranger segment and with the cost of living some people will opt for cheaper vehicles. If the Kia Tasman is released they will be pushing hard for sales. Last edited by EBSXR6; 07-01-2025 at 08:14 PM. |

This year's over all sales 2025 I think will be different..
Hybrids will come up the ladder again and the Chinese 4x4s will get stronger numbers.. I've seen this at work.. since the current ranger has been out , there have only been 4 added to the carpark 1 raptor, 1 wild track and 2 povvo pacs (fleet vehicles) The wild track and raptor are 18 months old now.. but the number of new Great Walls etc in the carpark is now about 9... I asked the guys why a GW.. purely for price ....

Read a tradie express what a BYD Shark would do for him (like for like, financing may interfere) - he said he'd be paying $70 a week on fuel in diesel dual cab, at 2L/100km this would reduce to $10 per week. That's a significant saving. Anyone know if Shark will achieve this in real life. If so, watch out Ranger/Hilux.

Business vehicles no gst? Keep for five years and depreciate. Replace at five years. Hard to argue with his logic why should he make Toyota or Ford rich? |

Assume diesel is $1.80. A $79 fuel bill per week implies roughly 40 litres Assume a loaded up Hilux (with tradie crap in the back and driven like a tradie) gets somewhere around 12l/100 km. Implies somewhere around 330 km per week. Five day work week, divided into 330 km, suggests around 65-70 km per day. Well within the daily battery range of a Shark. Shark energy consumption is 212 Wh/km. Needs roughly 14.8 kWh per day of recharge. Current electricity price in Brisbane is around 34 c/kWh flat rate or 25 c/kWh off peak. Assuming tradie sets up off peak charging, then daily charging cost is $3.71 or about $18.55. Say, roughly $20 bucks per week. All up, the $70 per week is probably closer to $30 per week in "fuel" costs. Or a saving around $2k per year. There is probably some additional savings at the fringe if the tradie is presently running a generator for site power. Nothing to be sneezed at. But close to the most optimal savings case out of the Shark 6. |

Rubbery maths and unit conversions check out
Thanks for that whynot It is an efficiency saving, given Shark is cheaper + the publicity, can see many tradies switching from Hilux/Ranger in next upgrade. Do we have maths for Ranger PHEV in similar situation. I know from our young tradie, he's pretty clued on, that saving would be appreciated and used well.

here:
https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-new...-expected-soon 1st comment is by 'The Skeptic' and it's intuitive: "A theme in this years sales results is the outstanding sales for "old" cars. Look at the growth for some popular models: Toyota RAV4 (generation released 2019) +98% on 2023 Toyota Corolla (generation released 2018) +20% Mazda CX3 (generation released 2015) +17% Kia Cerato (generation released 2018) +168% (that is a huge result!) Mitsubishi ASX (generation released 2010) +34% Mazda 3 (generation released 2019) +16% Suzuki Jimny (generation released 2018) +94% All of these percentages are off a decent size base sales rate (the lowest seller, the Jimny, sold > 5000 units in 2023). Which makes their growth all the more impressive. It seems that many buyers want the older style cars - with smaller infotainment screens, knobs on the dash (instead of behind the wheel) - and a decent track record of reliability and service.... EDIT: Corrected Mitsubishi ASX generation release from 2012 to 2010. The car is now going into year 10 at High School."

Started upgrading their falcon utes to vans, the first 7 or so were the new Hiace, 50 plus grand per go to 19 to 25 year olds, the next 10 new vans, over to LDV at 35 grand roughly, at almost 20 grand a van.. that’s not small $$ to a business. All utes they buy now are PX 2 or 3 rangers … 2nd hand of course.. Fleet sales of new rangers will help the sales numbers, years ago people would laugh at vic cab companies buying falcons or police buying commodores hand over fist… now vicpol buy new rangers and ford is releasing a super duty aimed at fleets that need them.. all those sales count to that no 1 position. They are throw away objects to businesses, it’s the private buyer market that will decide if they will keep spending the dollars.

It's a bit short sighted looking at just the purchase price though.
Resale should also be looked at, sure at work we could just buy Haval H9s and LDV vans instead of Prados and Hiaces but we after two years we actually need to make some money back when we sell them...And they sell straight away. Oh and also when the crash, they're back on the road straight away. No issues with parts not being in the country or no listing.

It'll join an oversaturated market offering more of the same as everyone else, except with worse looks, I reckon its a Mitsubishi Triton competitor, its not getting close to the Ranger or the Hilux. I don't think Kia has the idea of making this thing compete on price like the GWM offering. |

The only one the road will probably be John Cadogan after they give him one on the proviso he keeps peddling anti Japanese/American/Euro car content. |

Yeah, I think if people are expecting this Kia to be a value proposition, they are going to end up disappointed. Kinda like people who expected the Stinger to a XR6 replacement.

There are a million ways Kia could have gone with their ute.
All One Million would have looked better. Here is 1 of the million other options they could have used. Raptor Competitor.

I think people are stuck in the past thinking Hyundai/Kia are some cheap brand, they still make average cars they just charge a lot more for the privilege these days, the only decent car they make is the Kia Carnival which is peak people mover, everything else is middle of the road. |
