Jobs in the mining industry - Anyone here have one?

I have been reading up a lot about the mining industry and have also got some shares in some mining companies, and there is talk of a mini boom within the industry. It seems like a lot of the companies cannot get enough workers out in remote areas and they are willing to pay a lot of money for the right people.

Does anyone here work or has worked in the industry? I have been trying to find out information on the net about who to call about getting a job here in SA or elsewhere in Aust to no avail.. I can't really find any information about conditions, pay, job descriptions and what skills are required to get a job out on a mining site.

I am thinking of doing something like that for a year or two and earning some good money once my apprenticeship is up at the end of the year.
