Question The Safest Car in Australia..Ratings..Number 1 is the Cruze....

"If you’re looking to buy a used car, researching its safety rating could mean the difference between life and death.

The 2015 car safety ratings were announced today and many popular models were not considered ‘up to scratch’.

Fortunately the ratings show you don’t need to spend more to get a safe car.

NRMA spokesman Jack Haley said the findings were based on more than seven million car crashes across Australia and New Zealand.

“They're very well statistically based as to how well a vehicle will protect you and other road users in a crash,” he told Seven News.
The Holden Cruze gained a five star safety rating compared to the two star Mitsubishi Lancer.

And the ratings lived up to a crash test.

While both the Cruze and the Lancer ended up dented, the interior of the Cruze fared much better than the Lancer, which was trashed.

The Kia Rio, Nissan Pulsar, Hyundai Accent and Subaru Impreza all scored one star safety ratings for small cars.

The Hyundai Sonata and Mitsubishi Magna were considered the least safe larger cars.

"The ratings are essential reading for those shopping for a second-hand car... more than 200 models are listed.. and one in three is classes as poor.. or very poor,” Mr Haley said.

"You're six times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in the worst car than you are in the best car."

NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay said the safety rating allowed second hand buyers and parents looking for cars for their children to be able to pick the safest possible.

Details on where to find the latest car safety ratings can be found here and you can find the full list of cars here."
