"Mr Sifniotis was one of several unhappy Jeep owners whose stories were presented by The Daily Telegraph in May — part of a series that also revealed parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was under investigation by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission over whether owners were misled about their rights to refunds or replacements.
Mr Sifniotis alleged his Jeep Grand Cherokee’s steering locked — while in motion — in August last year, five months after purchase. In a September email the dealer said it had fixed what it called “a wiring concern”. But in November, while his wife Mary was doing 100km/h on the M5, it allegedly happened again. Mrs Sifniotis said she had to stop the car to unlock the steering wheel. The dealer is buying the car back for $60,000 after NSW Fair Trading’s intervention. Fair Trading said its “examination of the vehicle in question, and the trader’s records, as well as discussion with the trader have resulted in the buyback offer”. Family's problem 4wd finally bought back after nine months I was so angry I destroyed my $49,000 Jeep FCA Australia, which is not contributing to the buyback, said it was “unable to find any fault with this customer’s vehicle. “However, we are satisfied that an agreement has been reached ... and that this matter has now been concluded.”
