A groom has crashed a hired Lamborghini on the way to his own wedding after losing control and crashing through a fence on a wet Sydney road today.
The man was reportedly driving with his best man along McIver St in Middelton Grange, west of Sydney, on his way to the 3pm (AEDT) wedding ceremony when he crashed the luxury sports car.
The groom told police the car skidded on the bumpy road in the wet weather before leaving the bitumen and crashing through a wire fence shortly after 2.30pm.
No one was injured in the accident.
The Lamborghini Gallardo, estimated to be worth $500,000, suffered only minor damage in the accident, according to police.
But a representative for the company that hired out the luxury car, David Wilkin, said the damage was worse than expected when he arrived at the scene and the car was "almost a write off".
"My heart sank when I saw it, it's one of my favourites," Mr Wilkin told Nine News.
The driver, who was reportedly running late for his wedding, told the hire company where the car could be found before leaving it on the side of the road and running on foot to his church.
"He said I have to leave your car now to go to the church," said Mr Wilkin. "[He said] it is waiting for you."
The groom made it to the church on time for the ceremony, Nine News reports.
Police do not believe speed was a factor in the crash but are continuing to investigate the accident.
