Riding my Yamaha TT350 home from work (in 1992 as an apprentice mechanic) stopped half way home to pick up a mate to help out with some work needed on the XD back then travelling through town just before we got back to my place around 60kph an XF ute pulled out in front of us and then stopped I down shifted and swerved... but my right knee still hit the left rear tail lamp of the ute both of us catapulted from the Motorcycle to the side of the road RESULT: Several broken bones in my Right foot Extensive nerve damage in Right foot (took ten years to gain any sensation) Fractured Fibula and Tibia just below the Knee Broken Posterior Cruiciate Ligament (never re-attached) Femur Smashed into my Pelvis (splintering it) and dislocated Fortunately my Helmet / Riding Gear was of good Quality and did its Job protecting my Head (allthough some would dispute this : ) / Torso. Cost:Free ride to the hospital with complimentary bottle of NOS (yes I sucked the whole bottle in), 1 night @ Extreme pain and no sleep = "Hell on Earth" (accident happend around 5pm thrusday night and wasn't deemed critical), + 4 weeks in traction. Mates injuries: 3 stitches in his right knee (lucky boy) Cost:out of hospital in a few hours Damage to the Bike: Bent the handle bars $30 Tore the handgrip on one side $12 Cost: $42 I have another mate who has had several accidents including hitting a Kangaroo @ 110kph half way from Perth to Darwin... breaking his leg... dropping the bike (XJR 1200) getting back on the bike and riding to the nearest Hospital |
