Default Revving on Right hand turns

I'm having another problem with my 2000 au falcon AUTO. When doing a right turn from stationary, the car will initially pull away, attempt to change gear as the speed increases and just start revving as if it were in neutral. All power is lost. After ~2secs the transmission seems to 'engage' and the car pulls away normally. I'm guessing the transmission sometimes fails to reengage going from 1st to 2nd.

This only seems to happen on right hand turns and only occasionally. I'm guessing this is a sign of the inevitably impending doom - a failing transmission, correct? The car's almost done 200k km and has been regularly serviced. If it is the transmission, how much would I be up for, and would it be worth it (consider the cars got some paint damage and the interior is looking worse for wear).

Thanks in advance for your suggestions
