Talking car cover or free standing awning?

Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'm hopefully only 6 weeks away from delivery of my new Typhoon. I don't have a garage to put it in and have been wondering what would be better to protect the beasty from the elements:
a good quality car cover, or
a free standing awning with sides and steel frame - I've seen one in Supercheap.
Couple of questions:
Car covers usually say that they shouldn't be used on "new paint" so does that also apply to new cars? They usually recommend 6mnths old.

The "tent" I saw a Supercheap was 6.6m long x 3m high - much too big for my parking area in the backyard- I need one max 5.5m long and 2.2m high - does anyone know if there are companies that make these in different sizes?

Your ideas/ info appreciated
Cheers
Frank
