Boot Release Problem

I have done a search and there are threads on boots not latching and unlatching intemittently, but noone has had the same problem as me.

Bearing in mind that I did have a guy shunt me up the *** the other week just before this problem started to happen. He nudged the towbar and there's no visible damage to the car (according to panelbeater)

Recently I have had the problem of the boot latch consistantly not releasing the boot first time. If I pull on the boot as I release it, it opens, but if I let the second click go, the boot will not open.
Funnily enough, if I hit the relaease button a second time, there are no problems.

Has anyone else had issues like this? Could it be a faulty catch or would the timing suggest that there is a possibility the latch was damages by the shunt.

PS, this is both with the dash mounted and remote release.
